Alumni Newsletter | February 2015

As we anxiously wait for spring and warm weather, we have been busy planning many opportunities for our alumni to connect with each other while also giving back to our community. This month's newsletter will focus on the various activities for you to continue your Concordia experience by reconnecting with friends, growing through the Gospel of Mark, interacting with family and friends and volunteering.  Please review the list of events below and the listing on the left sidebar.

Wisconsin Club Social & Bucks Night
Wednesday, March 11th

Join us for just the social event at the Wisconsin Club or just the Bucks game or treat yourself and do both. You will have the opportunity to meet up with CUW alumni, enjoy a couple of drinks and tailgate fare before taking the FREE shuttle to the Bradley Center for a CUW night with the Bucks. There is a special early entry time for a "Meet & Greet" with a Bucks representative. Then kick off the game with the CUW Pep band playing the national anthem and cheer on the Milwaukee Bucks take on the Orlando Magic. The social event is free and the game is discounted at $25. You need to register so we know how many people will be attending each event.  Click here for more details and to register.

 

The Gospel of Mark Dramatic Presentation
Friday, April 10th

Concordia University Wisconsin will host a live, dramatic presentation of The Gospel of Mark. The presentation is given by six professors and pastors from Concordia Seminary and Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod congregations in Saint Louis, Missouri.

 

For several decades, scholars have increasingly placed the Gospel of Mark in an oral context, believing it to be a written document intended to be read aloud to a gathered audience. Attendees are encouraged to listen, rather than read along, to experience the true proclamation of the rule and reign of God in Jesus through the enthralling words, images and message of Saint Mark. 

 

This FREE event, supported by a generous gift from the Lutheran Church Extension Fund, will take place in the Chapel of Christ Triumphant.  More details will be on the Alumni Events page closer to the day.

Here is your chance to enjoy a little indoor tropical weather. If you have never joined us for our waterpark weekend, this is the year to attend one or two nights. The Wilderness Hotel has added some new attractions beside the waterpark which includes a go-kart trail and lazer tag (extra fees required).  Make sure you are there for the Saturday afternoon social.  Click here for more information.

 

Attention Cyclists & Volunteers            

You have the opportunity to join the Concordia In Action teams for the United Performing Arts Fund's (UPAF) "Ride for the Arts" Sunday, May 31st and for Lutheran Special School & Education Services' (LSSES) "Krankin for Kid's" Saturday, September 12th bike rides. This is a great way to show our support and have some fun with the Concordia University Wisconsin community of alumni and families.

 

The "Ride for the Arts" early registration deadline is April 12th with a fee of $50. Team registration ends on April 29th. Interested participants need to register here and give the password of Concordia. The Concordia logo will be included on our team shirts and can be picked up at the Highland House social on May, 29th. If you are not a cyclist, there are opportunities to volunteer. The volunteer opportunities will open to the public March 3rd, so sign up for the prim spots before then. Use the password: 2015preregister and indicate you are affiliated with Concordia. If you have already registered and would like to be on the Concordia In Action team, just email alumni@cuw.edu and let us know.

2015 Reunion Weekends

If your class is interested in having a reunion, we have begun the planning for you! July 10th - 12th and October 9th - 10th have been designated as the "Reunion Weekends". Both weekends will include a tour of the Milwaukee campus, a university update luncheon, a special alumni chapel service and a sporting event. July will be a Chinooks game and October will be the Homecoming sporting events. If you are interested in helping to plan your class reunion, please contact us at alumni@cuw.edu or complete the reunion questionnaire.
