Chateau Leoville Poyferre
Saint-Julien

"The wine out distances both Leoville Las Cases and Leoville Barton, but all three of them are compelling efforts. Full-bodied, dense purple in color, with floral notes intermixed with blackberries, cassis, graphite and spring flowers, this full-bodied, legendary effort is long and opulent, with wonderfully abundant yet sweet tannin, a skyscraper-like mid-palate and a thrilling, nearly one-minute finish. This spectacular effort from Poyferre that should drink well for 30+ years." (WA)

"A wine of architectural strength and classical proportions, this has straight lines that mark the packed, concentrated fruits, which are sustained by its tannins. This is certainly the best wine that Leoville-Poyferre has produced, sumptuous while so finely structured. -R.V. (2/1/2013)" (WE)
Wine Enthusiast: 98 pts.
"Inky in color, with explosive notes of licorice, smoke, jam, black and blue fruit, fresh brewed espresso and earth, the wine is dense. Packed with ripe, polished, fruits, sweet tannins, and enough freshness to give this life, the wine expands on the palate with a blast of juicy, ripe, lush, sweet berries. Not quite at the level of the stunning 2009, but this blend of 61% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot, 6% Petit Verdot and 3% Cabernet Franc is close. This stunning wine should age and evolve for decades. 96 points - Tasted Feb 8, 2013" (JL)

"Wow. Very intense and aromatic nose with crushed currants and blueberries with hints of nuts and dried flowers. Full body, with very refined tannins and a lovely undercurrent of fruit. Balanced and juicy. Better in 2018." (JS)

Chateau Lynch Bages
Pauillac

"Roasted cedar, tobacco and bay leaf notes start off this structured but lively bottling, with intense currant, blackberry and black cherry flavors at the core. The iron-laced grip and pleasantly austere plum pit and licorice snap accents fill in on the tar-tinged finish. Great range, character and typicity. If you ever need to explain Pauillac to someone, give them this. Best from 2018 through 2037." (WS)
Wine Spectator: 96 pts.
"The 2010 Lynch Bages is an absolutely brilliant wine, and somewhat reminiscent at this stage in its development of the profound 1989. Jean-Charles Cazes, who took over for his father a number of years ago, has produced a magnificent wine with the classic creme de cassis note intermixed with smoke, graphite and spring flowers. It is a massive Lynch Bages, full-bodied and very 1989-ish, with notable power, loads of tannin, and extraordinary concentration and precision. This is not a Lynch Bages to drink in its exuberant youth, but one to hold on to for 5-6 years and drink over the following three decades." (WA)
Wine Advocate: 96 pts.
"This sumptuous wine is driven by perfectly ripe fruit as well as dense, dusty and dry tannins. Great swathes of blackberry sweep across the palate, followed by juicy acidity. Such a combination will make this impressive wine a delight to drink in 10 years and beyond. -R.V. (2/1/2013)" (WE)
Wine Enthusiast: 96 pts.
"Dark ruby in color, blackberry, mint, cedar, smoke, jam and earthy scents took some effort to find, as the wine is beginning to close down. Powerful, full bodied, tannic, dense, the wine is packed with fresh, crisp, spicy cassis berries. The wine is long, deep, fresh and polished, with a lot of tannin and structure to the wine. Consumers will need to exercise patience, as this will demand at least 10 or more years before it's fun to drink. 95 points - Tasted May 8, 2013" (JL)
Jeff Leve: 95 pts.
"A wine with great beauty and finesse. Such elegance and ethereal quality for this estate. Full body, with ultra-fine tannins and a juicy delicious finish. Long and beautiful. This is the best Lynch in a long, long time. I love the precision here. Try in 2018." (JS)
