"Coming from pure sand soils, the 2011 Chardonnay Gnesa is a pretty, mineral-driven Chardonnay that has notions of orchard and tropical fruits that veer toward the citrus end of the spectrum with air. Medium-bodied, beautifully rich, with clean, classy acidity providing edge and definition, it, too, should benefit from another 6-12 months of bottle age and have a solid evolution for a number of years. Drink 2014-2018+." (WA)

"Vivid gold. Potent, mineral-accented aromas of dried pear, ginger and white flowers. Refreshingly bitter and precise, offering pear skin and quinine flavors and a touch of anise. Closes dry and very long, with firm grip and lingering minerality. This wine is about much more than mere fruit. " (IWC)

"Orange blossoms, mint, honey and hazelnuts all wrap around the palate in the 2011 Chardonnay Gnesa. The viscous, textured personality of these old Wente clones as expressed by the low yields of the year comes through in spades. The style is rich, voluptuous and intense, and it all works beautifully. Typically the wines from this north-facing site close to the Pacific Ocean are a bit more restrained, but in 2011, like 2010, the Gnesa is a bit richer than normal." (AG)

"Abundant tropical fruit aromas jump from the glass of this evolved 2011 Chardonnay. With terrific acidity along with plenty of pineapple, white peach and mango-like fruit, medium to full body, 14.5% natural alcohol and a rich, textured mouthfeel, it should drink well for a decade or more." (WA)

"Bright gold. Intense aromas of melon and yellow apple are brightened by lemon zest and floral nuances. Juicy and elegant, with powerful orange zest and orchard fruit flavors balanced by vibrant acidity. The orange note lingers on the long, sappy, very persistent finish. I really like this wine's blend of richness and vivacity." (IWC)

"The 2011 Chardonnay Sweeney Canyon is one of the most compact wines in this range. Crushed rocks, minerals and smoke dominate, followed by jasmine and white stone fruits. There is a lot of cut and focus, but here, too, readers will have to be patient. Often a bigger, broader wine, in 2011 the Sweeney Canyon is quite inward. Superb finesse and complexity more than make up for that. Sadly, this is the last vintage for the Sweeney Canyon, the only wine Brewer-Clifton has made without interruption from 1996 to 2011." (AG)
