Michel Gassier
Nostre Pais
Proprietary White Blend
Costieres de Nimes
"I know some readers will find it hard to believe, but the 2011 Nostre Pais Blanc's aromas and rich, honeyed, full-bodied texture reminded me of the famous white Chateauneuf du Pape made by Beaucastel, which sells for three or more times the price. An amazing blend of 90% Grenache Blanc, 5% Roussanne and 5% Viognier aged six months in French oak, the Roussanne component jumps from the glass, offering notes of acacia flowers, honeysuckle, white peach, quince and pineapple. The flamboyant, intense aromatics are followed by a full-bodied, exuberant, dry white wine that must be tasted to be believed. I suspect this offering has some aging potential, but why risk it given how beautiful it is showing at present. I recommend consuming it over the next several years." (WA)

Vignobles Michel Gassier joins our ancestral estates in a single desire: make captivating wines that express the essence of our grapes & their terroirs that nourish them. Currently in conversion to organic farming, our Rhone valley vineyards are counselled by Philippe Cambie. Discover award winning wines that express the passion of their wine maker at Chateau de Nages & Domaine de Molines. "This new cuvee represents our search for elegance, purity and mineral/terroir expression. Grape ripeness is not pushed to the outer limits, sorting is drastic, oak aging is kept to a minimum, and blending includes 3 varietals of our appellation (White Grenache, Roussanne & Viognier). Our winemaking style is as non interventionist as possible." -Michel Gassier

YET ANOTHER LAWC "BEST BUY"!!
2011
Domaine Lafage
Novellum
Chardonnay
Vin de Pays d' Oc
"The outstanding 2011 Novellum competes with some of the finest Macon-Villages wines one can find. It is made from 100% Chardonnay (from 25- to 30-year-old vines), aged three months in a combination of Burgundy barrels (30%) and stainless steel tanks (70%), and, somewhat innovatively, is aged on Viognier lees which gives it a honeysuckle and white peach-scented nose. There is also a salty sea breeze character reminiscent of the crushed oyster shell-like note my colleague David Schildknect often detects in Loire Valley whites. This crisp, fresh, medium-bodied Cotes Catalanes exhibits lots of earthy/terroir characteristics. Readers should think of it as a brisk, zesty, authoritatively flavored Chardonnay from the cool, alluvial soils on the banks of the Aigly River." (WA)
Wine Advocate: 90 pts.
Novellum is a custom cuvee of Chardonnay grown and made by Jean Marc and Eliane Lafage for Eric Solomon. The Latin name "Novellum" echoes "Nouveau" ("new"), and the recent vintage suggests a wine that saw little delay between the vineyard and the bottle. The grapes experience cold maceration with only first pressing. The majority of the wine, 70%, is aged in stainless steel. To achieve the perfect balance of fresh acidity, ripe fruit and a touch of minerality 30% of the wine is aged briefly for 2 months in one-year old barrels. But the real uniqueness in this wine comes from its aging method: it is aged on the "lees" of previously fermented Viognier for three months, imparting a luscious floral character that's different from just about any Chardonnay you've tasted. Year after year, the Novellum Chardonnay is lauded for being one of the best Chardonnay values in the United States market. Many restaurants have found it to be a terrific "by the glass" Chardonnay because it marries so well with food. As one of Eric Solomon's first custom cuvees, now in a long line of successes, Novellum remains one of the most popular bottlings in the portfolio.
