NEW ARRIVAL!
2009
Chateau Saint Jean
Cinq Cepages
Sonoma County
"The estate's flagship 2009 Cabernet Sauvignon Cinq Cepages is a wine mostly of promise at this stage. Mocha, espresso and savory herbs add nuance and complexity as this dark wine gradually unfurls in the glass. I see terrific depth and richness here, but readers will have to be patient. There is a lot going on here. A second bottle tasted in a complete vertical of Cinq Cepages came across as blend of 2007 and 2008, with a slight nod to the older vintage. The 2009 was impressive in that setting as well. Anticipated maturity: 2014-2024. This range from Chateau St. Jean is packed with values. Many of these wines, especially at the entry-level, are made in large enough production to be relatively easy to find. Achieving high quality at this scale is a rare skill. Longtime winemaker Margo Van Staaveren certainly seems to have the magic touch." (WA)

NEW RELEASE!!
2008
Bennett Lane
Maximus Red Blend
Napa Valley
"This is one of the best red wines at this price in California. A Bordeaux blend with a splash of Syrah, it's so rich and opulent, it just dazzles from start to finish. Floods the mouth with sweet cherries, raspberries, milk chocolate and red licorice, yet gets structure from firm tannins and bracing acidity. Lives up to its name, a Cabernet-based wine to feast on...- S.H. (5/1/2012)" (WE)

AN OLD FAVORITE!!
2010
Chateau Montelena
Cabernet Sauvignon
Napa Valley
"A big, mouth filling wine, the 2010 Cabernet Sauvignon, shows the personality of the vintage in its intense fruit. There is plenty of underlying structure in this deep, resonant Cabernet Sauvignon. Mint, flowers and sweet red berries are some of the nuances that are woven into the finish. This is far from an easygoing Napa Cabernet. Although delicious today, it should drink well for a number of years. Another year or so in bottle should help the elements come together even more fully. The 2010 is 93% Cabernet Sauvignon and 7% Merlot. Anticipated maturity: 2014-2024. Chateau Montelena's 2010 Cabernets are among the highlights in this set of new releases, although the 2011 Chardonnay is pretty terrific as well. Bo Barrett credits his experiences in 1987 and 1988 as a big reason he was able to handle the stresses of the 2010 vintage, in particular the late season heat spikes that gave growers fits. It's great to see this historic property making wines that live up to its reputation. A recent bottle of the 2002 Cabernet Sauvignon Estate was also superb." (WA)

2010
Hall
Cabernet Sauvignon
Napa Valley
"The 2010 Cabernet Sauvignon Stags Leap District is another huge wine. Despite its size, it possesses silky tannins and great concentration of fruit. Blackberries, blueberries, spices and suave tannins provide the backdrop for this extroverted, striking Cabernet Sauvignon. In a decidedly opulent style, with hints of sweetness on the finish, this is yet another intriguing wine. Anticipated maturity: 2015-2030. This is a thrilling set of wines from Hall. The estate favors a rich, extroverted style, yet all of these wines have distinct personalities and tons of sheer character. Meticulous viticulture followed by native yeast fermentations, slow, natural malos and minimal rackings are at the heart of the approach at Hall. The wines are aged in French oak (mostly Taransaud, 40-90% new) and are bottled with no fining or filtration. Readers who appreciate the more opulent side of Napa Valley will find much to admire here. Simply put, I was blown away by what I tasted. As outstanding as the 2009s are, there is a very good chance the 2010s will turn out to be even better." (WA)

2009
Sbragia Family Vineyards
Cabernet Sauvignon
Cimarossa Vineyard
Howell Mountain, Napa Valley
"An implosive deep wine, the 2009 Cabernet Sauvignon Cimarossa Vineyard boasts considerable energy, but here there is more than enough fruit to nearly cover the Howell Mountain tannins. Sweet red berries, freshly cut flowers, mocha, chocolate and sweet spices all come to life in a wine that is surprisingly polished, suave and complete. Anticipated maturity: 2017-2029. Ed Sbragia can be counted on for wines that deliver consistently outstanding quality and plenty of personality. His 2009 Cabernets are particularly of note. Sbragia also has a magic touch when it comes to Chardonnay from Gamble Ranch, fruit he has worked with since 1976." (WA)

"Made from the classic Bordeaux varieties, this polished, supple wine is pretty tannic, but it's fine for drinking now. It shows a concentration of blackberry and black currant flavors, with a liqueur-sweet intensity that leads into a long finish. -S.H. (3/1/2013)" (WE)

2009
William Hill
Cabernet Sauvignon
Bench Blend
Napa Valley
"William Hill's 2009 Cabernet Sauvignon Bench Blend bursts from the glass with layers of mocha, plums, black cherries, violet and spices. This is another of the richer, more voluptuous wines in the lineup. There is plenty of structure and acidity to lend vibrancy to the fruit. A long, polished finish makes it hard to resist a second taste. Anticipated maturity: 2014-2024." (WA)
