sigalas NEW RELEASE!!
2009
Chateau Sigalas Rabaud
Sauternes

"Lush but defined, with a lovely floral and green tea frame to the dried pineapple, quince, pear and yellow apple fruit flavors, which are seamless through the long, lightly toasted coconut-tinged finish. Very suave. Semillon and Sauvignon Blanc. Best from 2014 through 2025. 1,500 cases made." (WS)
Wine Spectator: 92 pts.
"The Sigalas Rabaud was sensational out of barrel and served blind, the wine does nothing to dispel my initial optimism that this is the apogee for the estate-so far. It is bestowed with an intense bouquet of quince, orange zest and almond with a lighter touch of honey compared to its peers. The palate is medium-bodied with great viscosity. This is an assertive Sauternes that wants to make an impression, although it does not display the complexity or breeding of Yquem and Suduiraut. Still, it is very composed and perhaps is saving something up for later, biding its time as it were. This is a wondrous wine. Drink now-2040." (WA)

rayne NEW RELEASE!!
2009
Chateau Rayne-Vigneau
Sauternes

"This packs in some seriously dense creamed fig, pear and yellow apple fruit liberally laced with marzipan, heather honey and candied citrus peel. Rich and spicy through the finish, with great energy. Semillon and Sauvignon Blanc. Best from 2014 through 2030. Tasted twice, with consistent notes. 4,580 cases made." (WS)
Wine Spectator: 93 pts.
"The 2009 Rayne-Vigneau has a more conservative bouquet with neatly placed scents of dried honey and beeswax, a touch of Barsac barley sugar developing with time. The palate is medium-bodied with a very candied entry: orange zest, mandarin and a little barley sugar once again. It is well-balanced: clean and fresh, with good precision, if not the complexity, towards the finish. I suspect that this will improve in bottle over the next decade. Drink 2018-2035." (WA)

lafaurie NEW RELEASE!!
2009
Chateau Lafaurie-Peyraguey
Sauternes

"A more powerful style, with toasted coconut, almond and orange peel notes up front, followed by a dense core of creamed peach, glazed apricot and ginger, with a date-tinged finish. This should unwind soon enough while staying on the darker, tropical side of the spectrum. Best from 2015 through 2030. 4,631 cases made." (WS)
Wine Spectator: 93 pts.
"I recall that in barrel, this wine was difficult to assess due to the SO2 present and even tasting it blind in bottle, I pick up on that sulphur. I sincerely hope that this will clear away with time because what is on the palate seems so promising. It is laden with luscious honeyed fruit, orange zest and mandarin, minerals and barley sugar. There is a wonderful viscous texture that remains precise, well-balanced and composed until the very end. I have to insert a question mark due to the sulphur issue, but I recommend either laying the bottle down for several years or affording it 12-24 hours decanting." (WA)

vedrines NEW RELEASE!!
2009
Chateau Doisy-Vedrines
Sauternes

"Richly layered and detailed, but thoroughly mouthwatering, this lets lacy citrus, floral and white peach flavors meld into a core of quince, fig and persimmon fruit, while warm piecrust and honey roasted almond notes drive through the finish. Very long, with superb cut despite its power. Best from 2015 through 2032. 6,000 cases made." (WS)
Wine Spectator: 94 pts.
"The 2009 Doisy-Vedrines exceeded my expectations under blind conditions. It is usually seen as a less refined Barsac predisposed to richness and viscosity, but the 2009 exudes far more tension and elegance than I anticipated. It has a perfumed, floral bouquet with scents of dried honey, melted wax, lemon curd and a touch of lemon thyme. It is beautifully defined and focused. The palate is medium-bodied with beautiful balance and precision. There is real grace and tension in this Sauternes: very focused and precise though with patently a lot of botrytis towards the mellifluous finish. This is a wonderful Doisy-Vedrines. Drink now-2035+" (WA)

daene NEW RELEASE!!
2009
Chateau Doisy Daene
Sauternes

Quite high-pitched now, with lots of green plum and green almond notes laced with bright honeysuckle and heather. The background shows more lemon shortbread, grapefruit pate de fruit and persimmon, while the finish offsets the sweetness with a lively quinine note. Distinctive, but will need time to come together. Semillon and Sauvignon Blanc. Best from 2015 through 2030. 4,509 cases made." (WS)
Wine Spectator: 93 pts.
"The 2009 Doisy-Daene was spectacular out of barrel, however it has never quite reached those ethereal heights in bottle. Perhaps this rich, generous vintage did not quite suit the crisp, tense style of Denis Dubourdieu's Barsac? Compared to others in this blind tasting, it comes across as more muted on the nose with scents of beeswax, marmalade and lanolin, though the Sauvignon Blanc is very expressive. The palate is very well-balanced on the entry with crisp acidity cutting through the viscous texture. The finish is rounded in the mouth, offering attractive notes of lemon sherbet and orange essence. Everything is very "contained" at the moment, although the tension suggests that it should age well. I suspect this will need a decade before it really blossoms. Drink 2020-2040." (WA)

myrat NEW RELEASE!!
2009
Chateau de Myrat
Sauternes

"This is explosively rich, with almond cream, heather and honeysuckle aromas giving way to mouthwatering lime chiffon, papaya and dried persimmon notes. Long and expansive, with intense citrus pate de fruit on the finish. Still on the youthfully rambunctious side, so cellar. Best from 2014 through 2030. 2,500 cases made." (WS)
Wine Spectator: 94 pts.
"The 2009 de Myrat displays noticeable vanilla-tinged oak that is waiting to be subsumed on the nose of this Sauternes: high-toned and generous, this is more spirituous than its peers. The palate is very candied on the entry. This is a "playful," citric 2009 Sauternes, one that does not possess the breeding of others, although the finish displays decent balance and a naive charm. It is a Sauternes of purity rather than power. Drink now-2025." (WA)

coutet NEW RELEASE!!
2009
Chateau Coutet
Sauternes

"Very lightly toasty, this is more floral for now, with lively honeysuckle and pineapple notes up front, giving way to richer hints of warm brioche, fig, glazed pear and lemon shortbread that should emerge more with time. The long, lacy finish has the poise and balance for long-term cellaring. Semillon, Sauvignon Blanc and Muscadelle. Best from 2014 through 2034. 5,000 cases made." (WS)
Wine Spectator: 95 pts.
"The 2009 Coutet has a very intense nose of apricot, papaya, honeysuckle and orange cordial that is very well defined. Interestingly I write the same comment as my appraisal out of barrel in that I would prefer just a little more vigor. However that is a minor quibble. The palate is very well-balanced with a rounded, caressing entry. There is certainly tremendous weight in the mouth and abundant botrytis, especially upon the unctuous finish. This has great potential-a fantastic wine from one of the finest Barsac estates. Drink now-2035+" (WA)

cantegril NEW RELEASE!!
2009
Chateau Cantegril
Sauternes

"A lush, front-loaded style, with lots of ginger cream, heather honey and warm shortbread notes that are quite rich and powerful, cutting a broad swath on the finish. A hedonist's sweet wine, with the stuffing to last a while in the cellar. Semillon and Sauvignon Blanc. Drink now through 2024. Tasted twice, with consistent notes. 3,039 cases made." (WS)
Wine Spectator: 91 pts.
"This has a lifted, voluminous nose that is lacking a little complexity. Very primal, developing scents of white flower with aeration. The palate is vibrant and really packs a punch on the entry. overly citrus orange peel notes inflect the honeyed fruit, taut and precise towards the finish. If the aromatics develop in barrel, this will be excellent." (WA)
Wine Advocate: 89-91+ pts.

bastor NEW RELEASE!!
2009
Chateau Bastor-Lamontagne
Sauternes

"Flashy, with quince and creamed yellow apple notes spiked with lively kumquat and tangerine notes. The finish bounces along nicely with good balance to the frank sweetness. Smillon and Sauvignon Blanc. Drink now through 2018. 4,000 cases made." (WS)
Wine Spectator: 89 pts.
"The 2009 is a very respectable Sauternes from Bastor-Lamontagne. The nose is a little muted despite rigorous coaxing with some free sulphur clouding the aromatics. The palate is medium-bodied with a fine thread of acidity. It is taut and focused, but I would have preferred more botrytis and viscosity on the comparatively conservative finish. Perhaps this will put on weight with bottle age? I would therefore afford the 2009 two or three years in bottle. Drink 2015-2030" (WA)
