antacura NEW ARRIVAL!!
2006
Antucura
Gran Vin
Proprietary Red
Uco Valley, Mendoza

"Antucura's 2006 Gran Vin is composed of 80% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Malbec, and 5% Merlot (in consultation with Michel Rolland) and was aged in new French oak for 16 months. Medium purple in color, it offers up an alluring perfume of wood smoke, cherry blossom, incense, Asian spices, cassis, boysenberry, and black cherry. Concentrated on the palate with layered fruit and potential complexity, this impeccably balanced effort will unfold for several more years and provide pleasure through 2020." (WA)

Chakana
Malbec
Estate Selection
Mendoza

"The 2011 Chakana Estate Selection Malbec comes from Uco and Lujan de Cuyo and is aged for 12 months in French oak (30% new). Tasted twice, it has a delightful bouquet with crisp red cherry, strawberry and vanilla scents that are beautifully defined. The palate is medium-bodied with fine, supple tannins and crisp acidity. It is harmonious and focused, with caressing vibrant red berry fruit on the bright, classy finish. This is a sophisticated Malbec: feminine and seductive. Drink now-2018." (WA)

Chakana
Estate Red
Mendoza

"Chakana's top cuvee is their 2011 Estate Blend, which is 60% Malbec from the Agrelo vineyard and the rest equal parts Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah. Aged 10 months in French oak, this wine displays notes of toast, blackberries, sweet cherries and Asian plum sauce as well as notes of white chocolate and barrique. The wine has great fruit, an opaque purple color, medium to full body, and loads of glycerin, fruit and length. It will drink well for 7-8 years, possibly even longer, and it is a sensational value. An incredible discovery for me, this winery was founded a decade ago and named after the Southern Cross ("Chakana" is the local Indian dialect for that constellation). It is located approximately 20 miles south of Mendoza in Agrelo. All three of these wines are highly recommended, and all are fabulous bargains in Malbec. " (WA)

Quimera
Mendoza

"An elegant red, displaying racy cassis, raspberry and spice notes backed by fine tannins and fresh acidity, as hints of dried flowers and spice highlight the minerally finish. Malbec, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Petit Verdot. Drink now through 2017. 5,500 cases imported." (WS)
Wine Spectator: 91 pts.
"The 2010 Quimera is a blend of 27% Malbec and 24% Cabernet Sauvignon alongside Petit Verdot and Merlot, raised in 40% French new oak for 14 months, the remainder one year old. It has a complex, almost "mulchy" bouquet: one that evokes undergrowth and tertiary aromas that are well-defined and cerebral. The palate is medium-bodied with fine, slightly chewy tannins surrounding a core of blackberry laced with licorice and a hint of star anise. The finish is focused and taut, bestowed with an extremely fresh citric finish. Old World meets New – with style. Drink 2014-2022." (WA)

Luca
Malbec
Mendoza

"The 2010 Malbec (100%) was sourced from 46-year-old vines and spent 16 months in 60% new French oak. It offers up an inviting nose of exotic spices, incense, cherry cola, wood smoke, and black cherry. On the palate it opens to reveal a plush, moderately structured Malbec that will benefit from another 2-3 years of bottle age. Drink this lengthy, seamless effort from 2013 to 2022. The Luca label is owned by Laura Catena. " (WA)

2009
Riccitelli
Malbec
Vineyard Selection
Mendoza

"The 2009 Vineyard Selection is pure Malbec from Vistalba and Perdriel aged for 16 months in French oak, 50% new. It has a tense blackberry, cassis and smoke-scented bouquet that takes time to unfurl in the glass (so I would afford this one hour opening before serving.) The palate is sweet and opulent, but the acidity is fresh and lends this wine the focus and harmony it needs. The finish is voluminous and grippy with layers of macerated black cherry, fresh dates and black pepper, and comes armed with impressive persistency in the mouth. Drink now-2017. I tasted an impressive range of wines from the bijou Matias Riccitelli estate that are flamboyant in style without compromising balance and composure." (WA)
