Success Strategies for Colorado Nonprofits

In the spirit of collaboration, The Colorado Trust partnered with Community Resource Center and Colorado Nonprofit Association on a research project to better understand the state of evaluation in Colorado's nonprofit sector.  This report, which is now available, studied the role of evaluation, the challenges in implementing evaluation practices and recommendations to support and enhance evaluation practices.

State of the Sector on Wednesday, December 9, 2015! The event follows Colorado Gives Day and will provide attendees a unique forum for reflection, discussion, information sharing and networking. Designed for nonprofit and foundation staff, board members and volunteers, this event will also benefit business, education and government institutions to join in the exchange of ideas.

For 34 years, nonprofit consultant Andy Robinson has traveled around the country facilitating interactive workshops on board leadership, fundraising, strategic planning and leadership development. So far, he has made it to 47 states and Canada and will be returning to rural Colorado for a four-day training tour.

Tech4Good Denver is at it again! As an organization that seeks to provide high-quality educational and networking forums to facilitate the effective use of technology across the nonprofit sector, they offer a variety of forums all year long that address different topics. Their next forum is Donations On The Go: Mobile Tools to Enhance Giving. The forum is designed for beginner to intermediate learners and will cover the three primary types of mobile donation tools: text-to-give and other mobile fundraising tools, mobile apps, and mobile-responsive donation pages.

Community Resource Center's Rural Capacity Building VISTA Project has allowed four nonprofits around the state to create VISTA positions at their organizations. The responsibilities of the positions vary - most focus on program development, outreach and marketing, fund development or a mixture of the three. Check out open positions through this program here

National Trust Grants Office is accepting applications for the October round of the National Trust Preservation Funds. Grants are awarded to organizations that encourage preservation at the local level for the purpose of providing seed money for planning and education projects. Deadline: 10/1/2015. The Colorado Trust is no longer accepting applications for 2015 sponsorships and will begin accepting 2016 sponsorship requests from December 15, 2015 to October 31, 2016. Potential applicants must have 501(c)(3) nonprofit tax status, and event for which you are seeking sponsorship support must align with the Trust's vision of advancing the health and well-being of the people of Colorado. Laura Jane Musser Fund is offering upcoming grant opportunities to rural communities for the purpose of encouraging collaborative efforts that will help to strengthen towns and regions. Potential applicants must be located in the geographic areas of Colorado, Hawaii, Michigan, Minnesota and Wyoming. For more information click here.

"Understanding the Geography of Growth in Rural Child Poverty", reports data collected by the USDA's Economic Research Service. According to 2009-2013 county averages, child poverty rates over 33 percent exists in one in five rural counties, nearly double since the 2000 Census. Improving young adult education levels is linked to decreased child poverty rates, while increases in single-parent households and economic recession are linked to increased child poverty rates. 2015 National Rural Assembly "Building an Inclusive Nation" will focus on specifically addressing barriers that disproportionately affect rural communities, such as persistent poverty, lack of access to quality healthcare, education and technologies and the depletion of natural resources.
