"John White has the intellect, administrative experience and temperament to serve the System well as acting chancellor," said Rick Trachok, chairman of the Board of Regents. "I look forward to working with him in building bridges with the legislators, NSHE faculty and staff, and our community partners."

White currently serves as strategic advisor to University of Nevada, Las Vegas President Len Jessup.

"I'm honored to serve as chancellor and am looking forward to working with the presidents and the Board of Regents to continue our mission of improving lives through education," said White.  "I intend to use this opportunity as a time to listen to our internal and external partners on how we can improve and thrive in this rapidly changing environment."

White previously served as UNLV's executive vice president and provost from 2012 to 2015.

Prior to that, he was the dean of the William S. Boyd School of Law at UNLV from 2007 to 2012.

White received his J.D. from Yale Law School in 1991, where he was a Notes and Topics editor for the Yale Law Journal and participated in the Jerome N. Frank Legal Service Organization.

White will serve as acting chancellor up through June 30, 2017, or until a permanent chancellor is hired through a national search undertaken by the Board of Regents.
