Fall STEM Fest: STEM-ulate your Future was a hit with 4th to 8th graders!
On Saturday, October 11, 2014 students in grades 4th to 8th were invited to Northwest Iowa Community College in Sheldon to participate in 4 of the 18 sessions that offered exciting STEM activities

STEM Elementary Day at George Little Rock was a huge success!
On Friday, October 17, students from George Elementary walked over to George Little Rock High School where the high school students hosted a fun and engaging STEM Elementary Day! Elementary students were able to attend STEM stations where high school students in George Little Rock's STEM Club led activities and excited students about STEM learning.

The Hour of Code is coming our way

The "Hour of Code" is an opportunity for every K-8 student to try Computer Science for one hour during Computer Science Education Week from December 8-14, 2014. More than 15 million students participated around the globe last year, but Code.org wants to see 100 million try coding this year, including every student in Iowa.

Code Iowa is encouraging K-8 teachers to sign their schools up to participation in the "Hour of Code" week. Those who sign up will have a chance to win $10,000 from Code.org OR a chance to win $4,000. There will be one grand prize winner from 1 of the 6 STEM regions who will receive the $10,000. 1 school in each of the other STEM regions will receive a $4,000 award.

The winner of the GRAND prize will be announced and awarded at the Governor's Press Conference on Monday, December 8 at 9 am when the Governor will sign a proclamation declaring it Computer Science Education Week in Iowa.

During that press conference, the Governor's STEM Advisory Council will announce the opportunity for 5 more schools to win.
