A Devotional Life

An oversight was made in the creation of the 2015 Annual Report.  In order that the congregation be kept aware of the important contributions to the life, mission, and spirit of Center Presbyterian Women their report has been included here.

Presbyterian Women 2014 Report

The purpose of the Presbyterian Women is stated in our handbook:

Forgiven and freed by God in Jesus and empowered by the Holy Spirit, we commit ourselves: to nurture our faith through prayer and Bible Study, to support the mission of the church worldwide, to work for justice and peace, and to build an inclusive caring community of women that strengthen the Presbyterian Church and witnesses to the promise of God's kingdom.

At the present time, we have two circles. The Mary Martha meets on the 2nd Monday of the month at 11:30 AM in the Bride's room. The Rachel circle meets the 2nd Wednesday of the month at 7:30 PM in member's homes. We each participate in a Bible Study.

We had our yearly "Whale of a Sale" in April, a tea in the spring and a"Celebration of Thanks" in November. The money that we raised from these activities along with our pledges was used to support our mission projects. The projects that we supported this year are: postage for gifts for our Troups,Pittsburgh Project,Pine Springs Camp,Washington City Mission, Avis Arbor Shelter,WashingtonHealth Sysyems Hospice,Watchful Shepherd Shelter, Washington Food Band, support 2 children through Friends of Haiti Project and assisted in paying for a new cabinet for an AA group. We also donated money to the Building Fund. We support the national Presbyterian Women with our annual pledge, Thank Offering and Fellowship of the Least Coin. We also have a jar in the Gathering Place under the banner to collect pennies for Family Promise. Our mission giving for 2014 totaled over $5,000.

A couple of us attended the World Day of Prayer at St. Benedict's Church in March. A group spent several days in the spring tidying up the kitchen.

Besides members of the two circles, there are several women who participate in our activities. We wouldn't be able to have a successful flea market without their assistance.

Respectfully submitted,

Harriet Dilly, moderator of Presbyterian Women

My humble apology is offered in leaving this out of the annual report booklet.  Revised reports are available in the machine room.  The work of the Presbyterian Women is of great value to this church and the surrounding community.  In addition to providing opportunities for study and fellowship on a monthly basis through both the Mary Martha Circle and the Rachel Circle, projects such as the flea market allow for funding of important programs and missions both locally and throughout the world.  You may have noticed in the financial report for the Presbyterian Women that monies are allocated to Fellowship of the Least Coin and  Friends of Haiti (support for 2 children).  These are but a few of the local, national and international projects supported by your contributions.  Letters have recently been mailed to the women of Center Church inviting financial support.  Please prayerfully consider a gift to the Presbyterian Women as they continue to offer their gifts of time, talent and treasure to the life of Center Presbyterian Church.   As a past moderator and lifetime member of Presbyterian Women, I hope you will join me in my appreciation for the service, care, and compassion of this active group of women.                Janet Ignatius

A Worshipful Life

Sermon Title:

"Transformed by Transfiguration"

Sermon Text:  Mark 9:2-9

Other Scripture:  2 Corinthians 4:3-6

Throughout Mark's Gospel Jesus keeps shushing anyone who tires to reveal that He's the Son of God (scholars call this Mark's "Messianic Secret").  However, after today, Jesus is revealed by God for who He truly is.  While it is true that the original disciples are told to still keep quiet about this, the Church today is actually empowered by the call to share about this Light that has shined in our darkness.  In fact, we're more than empowered, we - ourselves - are transformed by this transfiguration.
