Dear Friends,

Stewardship season is now upon us.  Below is the third in the series of messages presented to help bring focus to our theme "We Give Because..."
Sunday mornings are scheduled to encourage all of us to be together for study and worship.  So when you see an unfamiliar face, understand that they most likely have been attending "the other" worship.
The schedule of activities is listed below culminating with the Consecration Luncheon on November 23rd for which we are asking for an RSVP to help us plan for food quantities.
In the coming days, take some time in your own busy life to prayerfully consider "I Give Because..."

Why I Give...

I give to Center Church because the church gives me so much back.      Good friends, good ministry, a great place to grow my faith and worship, and a great music program.

Center Church (CPC) is a church that provides a wonderful place to worship and somewhere I can grow my faith in Jesus Christ.   The congregation of CPC makes me feel very "at home". We finally have a young, energetic pastor in Jeff Schooley.   Jeff brings out the best in our faith in Jesus Christ.   He isn't passive about faithful 'life' in today's world. He meets it head-on, discussing all issues in today's world.   We are very blessed at CPC to have such a wonderful pastor after many years of 'interims'.   We all need to support Jeff and his commitment and drive to help us grow in our faith.

I have been blessed to be able to contribute in many ways. Despite a very demanding work schedule, I have been able to donate the time to participate in the Center Church Music Ministry, with Chancel Choir, Bells and Recorders. There are times where it is not easy to fill all of my work responsibilities, as well as practice for Choir, Bells and Recorders. However, the reward of being able to give back through music is a blessing in itself.

A few years ago it was decided to remodel the sanctuary at a cost that was quite large.   It took a lot of prayer and soul searching by the congregation but most gave financially to the construction. I am very proud of my donation, because we now have a beautiful Sanctuary with additional space (rooms) at the front of the church to accommodate more activities. New members don't know how poor the lighting and sound acoustics were before the remodeling.

We have been blessed with a new wonderful pastor (and wife), a new sanctuary, and new members for the future of Center Church. I hope that during this Stewardship season, that each of you consider how comfortable the Lord's blessings have made you, and give accordingly.

"...We're Forgiven"
Matthew 18:21-35, Matthew 6:12

The very basis of all Christian life is forgiveness.  We can no sooner enter into our stewardship season without remembering this than we can enter into worship and forget this.  It is the forgiveness we find in Jesus Christ that both calls us to worship and generosity.  And, not coincidentally, forgiveness is often posed to us in scripture in financial terms.  This is because those who have been freed from debts and freed for generosity.

Special Music will be provided by Rick Baker, a local singer/songwriter who has been a guest musician with us several times.
Christian Education Guest
Rev. Caitlin Wertz Director of Pre-Release Program for HOPE Ministries at Allegheny County Jail. Rev. Werth will lead our discussion about incarceration, recidivism, and reform in America's legal and penal systems. She will also explain how Christians can and should be an important part of loving prisoners.

"...We're Faithful"
Leviticus 23:22, Matthew 6:11

Faithful giving has never been about merely tithing.  Today's passage from Leviticus explains how generosity begins even before the harvest.  In ancient Israel, farmers were required to allow others to "glean" from their fields.  Only after all the gleaning and harvesting was the tithe presented.  In the end, being generous isn't founded in what we have, but in the trust we have that God does actively provide "our daily bread."  Once our needs have been met by God, we are freed to meet all the other needs before us.

Special Music will be provided by Summerlea Kliner.  Summerlea is from Washington, PA who regularly sings with Washington Community Theater, the Washington Chorale.
Christian Education Guest
Steve Soff, Volunteer Coordinator at Greater Washington County Food Bank. Steve will lead a conversation about hunger and food insecurity as both a social and local issue. He will also help us explore how Christians can and should be an important part of feeding the hungry.

"...We Have a Future"
Luke 14:27-30, Matthew 6:10

Our giving is a witness to the rest of the world that we have a future in God's Kingdom.  We don't have to hoard our possessions (not that anyone had even been able to take them with them after death anyway!)  because God holds our future in His faithful hands.

Special Music will be provided by Center Church Chancel Bells.  This group of friends and members of Center Church volunteer their time and talent to this handbell ensemble to enhance worship services several times a year.  They will travel to Washington Senior Care and the Washington County Home in December to join in  worship services with residents.

Christian Education Guest
Laura Vincenti, Executive director of Family Promise of Southwestern Pennsylvania. Laura will use her years of experience serving our area's homeless population to help us understand the causes and consequences of homelessness as well as how the Christian church can and should play an important role in loving those who need shelter.
