Scholars are Out of This World Amazing!
|
Congratulations to Adelante College Prep's 2014 Fish & Richardson's Space Camp Scholarship recipients!
Space Camp is a five-day program with activities including simulated space shuttle missions, training simulators, and lectures on space exploration; its goal is to excite and educate children in the fields of math, science and technology. In addition to being an incredible learning experience, the scholars will receive fun things like their own flight suit, and some spending money for when they are at camp.
Meet this year's award recipients:
Alex Urzua is a focused young man who has a strong desire to discover something new about the world and
become famous. He loves being outside in nature and, like many of us, found this winter extremely difficult and long. Alex has never been on an airplane and is looking forward to it as a "life changing" event. He could not tell us often enough how thrilled he is to learn new things and we think Space Camp will be a great opportunity for him to do just that.
Ignacio Sanchez is an outgoing, energetic young man who wants to be a math or science teacher when he grows up. Ignacio loves all of his science and math classes at school and was overjoyed by the prospe ct of spending a week at a camp where that was the sole focus. He plans to share his "new-found knowledge" with his classmates and others at Adelante College Prep to encourage younger students to apply to the program in the coming years. I do not think we could ask for a better spokesperson.
Michelle Loya is a reserved young woman who went from quiet and shy to strong and confident during the short course of her interview. She was inspired to apply to the pro gram by her Mom whom Michelle told us teaches her that she cannot ever stop learning and needs to work hard to succeed. When asked what role she would choose on a mission to outer space, Michelle was quick to answer "Giving people orders. I am an older sister and I understand responsibility." In addition to learning about space, Michelle is excited to make new friends and keep in contact with the new people she meets while at Space Camp.
