AlumniAlumni Week and Homecoming Points Students in the Right Direction for Academic Success

Thanks to more than 2,900 alumni, supporters and students, Alumni Week and Homecoming events helped raise $35,300 to support student success at MCC. Congratulations to Kevin Booker, Khaled Refaai, Megan Mack, Kenosha Beverly, Jeanette Brown and Michael Burns who each participated in the 5K and left the event with a scholarship.

Homecoming weekend started with students and staff celebrating at the Damon City Campus, followed by Spirit Day with the annual Faculty vs. Students basketball game and MCC Sports Hall of Fame dinner.  Homecoming Day brought MCC's 10th Annual 5K Walk/Run for Scholarships, Tailgate Party, Tribunes soccer matches and an Alumni Art Lecture featuring works by Carmelo Ortiz and Victor Zarate.

The 5K Walk/Run resulted in record donations totaling $28,252 of which $12,257 was raised to establish the Martha Maher-Garcia Memorial Scholarship fund.  Martha was a beloved MCC employee who passed away earlier this year.

Team Martha

Our Homecoming celebration concluded with two new events, Glassworking Classes at the Arc + Flame Center of Rochester owned by MCC alumnus and Foundation Director Michael Krupnicki '85 and a Brunch and Cooking Demonstration held at Simply Crêpes owned by MCC alumni Pierre '78, Karen '81 and Nicole Hêroux resulted in $2,618 raised in support of students at MCC.

We are proud of all our partners within the college community that made Alumni Week and Homecoming 2016 possible.

Be sure to save the date of Saturday, October 7, 2017, for MCC's 11th Annual 5K Walk/Run for Scholarships and Homecoming celebration!
ThankThank You for Making a Wold of Difference in Danielle's Life

Scholarships make the world of difference to students like Danielle Bechtold (pictured at left). Danielle is the inaugural recipient of the Richard A. Nasca Memorial Scholarship for Optics Excellence. A part-time student, Bechtold says the award will help her take more classes this semester. "I was fortunate to have known and learned from Rick and take great pride in being named a Nasca Scholar," says Bechtold who balances a full-time job at OptiPro Systems with her studies. "The importance of community and education are values we shared. It's truly inspiring to have been selected to receive this scholarship, and I will work hard to carry on the example that Rick has set for all of us."

Danielle plans to use her MCC education to advance in the Optics industry and one day own her own business. "My vision is for this business to have a culture where people are encouraged to invent and implement. Accompanied with a unique employee benefit plan that will be tailored to mold to employee's different stages in careers from continuing education, to working parents, to employees with retirement on the horizon."
