LegacyFamily and Friends Endow Scholarship to Honor Mary Nolan

Last month, surrounded by sunflowers on the Rooftop at The Market at I-Square, Rachel Nolan announced to family and friends, including a group of MCC employees, that they had raised $25,116 to endow a scholarship in her mother's memory at the MCC Foundation. Guests were surprised to learn they had surpassed their fundraising goal in under two years. The Mary P. Nolan Performing Arts Endowed Scholarship will benefit MCC students in perpetuity. Mary Nolan was a beloved MCC employee and lifelong dancer who passed away in a July 2014 motorcycle accident.

Since 2014, teams led by MCC coworkers participated in Homecoming 5Ks to raise money for the Nolan scholarship, donning pink tutus the first year in recognition of the ballet classes Mary taught in the community and through MCC's intramural program. Nearly 80 people donated to the fund, including her daughters, Rachel and Sarah.

MCC Foundation Director Diane Shoger said, "Thanks to you, Mary continues to dance."

MikeMike Zimmer (Xerox Corp) Wins Big for Dreamkeepers

NASCAR driver Kurt Busch and Rochester executives revved up their go-karts to showcase local businesses and Watkins Glen International at Pole Position Raceway. Mike Zimmer (Xerox Corp), a generous supporter of MCC, came in second place in the 10-lap race. Mike won a $2,000 prize to donate to a charity of his choice, courtesy of Watkins Glen International.

Mike graciously allocated his winnings to MCC's Dreamkeepers program. Dreamkeepers was brought to MCC in 2015 to help students facing unexpected financial hardships. Dreamkeepers is a unique opportunity to provide emergency relief to students, allowing them to complete their studies, while also requiring that they receive financial literacy coaching to promote better money management skills. Click here to learn more.

ReaccreditationMCC Achieves Reaccreditation

Monroe Community College recently achieved reaccreditation from the Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE). MSCHE's action in June followed MCC's two-year self-study process and the MSCHE evaluation team's site visit in March 2016.

"Achieving accreditation is significant as it is an expression of the confidence that MSCHE has in our College's mission and goals, performance and resources," MCC President Anne M. Kress said. "It is testament to MCC's long-held commitment to quality, innovation and continuous improvement. It reaffirms the high quality of our academic programs and student support services, the effectiveness and efficiency of our operations, and the quality of our faculty and staff."

As always, thank you for all you do to support MCC and our students!
