MeetA Dream Empowered: Michael Viele '16

When you support the Annual Fund for Monroe Community College, you empower MCC students to overcome financial barriers and complete their educational goals. Students like Michael Viele '16, a recipient of two scholarships recognizing his excellence both in and out of the classroom. Michael, a liberal arts major with a concentration in political science, served as vice-president of MCC's Student Government Association. He graduated in June and plans to continue his education and earn a degree in international law with the ultimate goal of becoming a human rights lawyer.

"The impact of receiving two scholarships is not only gratifying, but humbling. I can't thank the college and Foundation donors enough for bestowing these awards upon me.

"MCC is an amazing institution. It has changed my life and taught me lessons I will carry with me forever."

Thank you for your support of the Annual Fund. You are the inspiration that sets a student on a path to success. Your gift makes a real difference to students like Michael and hundreds of others at MCC. For more information or to make a gift, please visit: www.monroecc.edu/go/annualfund

Scholarship Open Raises $110,000+ for Student Success

The Monroe Community College Foundation hosted its 32nd Annual Scholarship Open on June 27 at the famed Oak Hill Country Club. MCC Foundation Director Phil Yawman was joined by Tony Soprano '92 (DiMarco Constructors) to co-chair the event. It was a wonderful day of golf, camaraderie and philanthropy.

Phil Yawman's team of Rick Brienzi, Jeff Davis and Tony Tortorella came in as the Low Gross winners with a score of 61. LaBella Associates' team of Ross Ciulla, Sergio Esteban, Mark Gregor and Robert Healy captured the Low Net trophy with a score of 57. Andy Juskiw captured the prize for men's longest drive and Mike Kortan took home the prize for men's closest to the pin, while Mary Beth Rumble was the celebra
ted winner of both the women's longest drive and closest to the pin.

Golfers had the opportunity to hear from MCC Student Government
President Blake Moore. Blake joked, "Unfortunately
Student Government President Blake Moore shared his student perspective at the 2016 Scholarship Open.
my landlord won't accept a transcript with a 3.9 cumulative GPA as means of acceptable payment." Blake's perspective on the importance of scholarships to MCC students inspired a Scholarship Call that raised just shy of $40,000! The Scholarship Call was led by Don Jeffries '71 (VisitRochester), a member of the MCC Alumni Hall of Fame and MCC Foundation Board of Directors. At the end of the evening, Foundation Board Chair Jeremy Wolk announced the event raised $110,000 (net) for MCC students.
RCSDTransfer Connect Program Provides Pathway for Students with Potential

Beginning this fall, the MCC Foundation is proud to provide scholarship support totaling $45,000 to Rochester City School District students selected for the Transfer Connect Program. The new program is offered by Rochester Institute of Technology in partnership with MCC to serve the transitional needs of city students with potential and interest in attending RIT.

While attending MCC, the students receive academic support and opportunities to build their skills. Students who maintain at least a 2.5 GPA become eligible to transfer to RIT.
