Carballada Scholarship Puts City Kindergarteners on the Path to MCC
R. Carlos and Virginia Carballada celebrate with students from
Michele Carballada's kindergarten class at School No. 29.
Kindergarten students in Michele Carballada's class at Adlai E. Stevenson School No. 29 learned that a unique scholarship to Monroe Community College can be theirs after they graduate from high school. The Carballada Endowed Scholarship Fund for Rochester City Students honors Carballada's 13-year teaching career with the Rochester City School District. The fund was established in 2014 by Carballada's parents, Virginia and R. Carlos Carballada, with the help of the Monroe Community College Foundation. The fund provides MCC scholarships to students taught by the Carballada's daughter. "This is a way for my wife and I to thank our daughter for her devotion to Rochester students," said Mr. Carballada who is a member of the MCC Foundation Council. "These students have an opportunity waiting for them at one of the best community colleges in the country." This is the third year the Carballadas have come to the school to announce the scholarship. They were joined by MCC President Anne Kress, MCC Foundation Executive Director Diane Shoger and School No. 29 Principal Tanya Wilson. "Starting today, we want you to think of yourself as college students," said Kress to the students. "This family believes in you so much, they want you to go to college at MCC."
