TimMCC Alumnus Receives National Award

Timothy Wentworth '80
The American Association of Community Colleges (AACC) recognized MCC alumnus Timothy Wentworth '80 (Franklin Lakes, N.J.) among six outstanding alumni who have made a positive impact on their communities, the nation and the world. Wentworth was among those honored at the AACC's 96th annual Convention on April 12 in Chicago.

Wentworth is president of Express Scripts, a $100 billion Fortune 20 Corporation. In May, he will become Express Scripts' chief executive officer. Both he and his wife Robin graduated from MCC in 1980; he studied business while she studied music. His career path includes earning a bachelor's degree from Cornell University and leadership positions at PepsiCo and Mary Kay.

The Wentworths continue to give back to MCC and maintain ties to Rochester. In 2009, they established a scholarship fund at MCC for business and music majors. They also underwrote the purchase of a Steinway grand piano to MCC's Visual and Performing Arts Department. In 2013, the Wentworths presented a $2.25 million gift to the MCC Foundation - the largest gift in the college's history-to establish the Wentworth Family Scholarship program. The fund provides scholarships to 40 students per year while inspiring them to set and reach higher goals. Mr. Wentworth is also a member of the MCC Alumni Hall of Fame.

The AACC also honored outstanding alumni from Kalamazoo Valley Community College (Mich.), Moraine Valley Community College (Ill.), Community College of Baltimore County Catonsville (Md.), and Alvin Community College (Tex.), including baseball great Nolan Ryan.

OneMCC Foundation Ranks No. 1 in Unrestricted Giving

For the first time, Monroe Community College Foundation is ranked No. 1 in unrestricted giving among participating community colleges nationwide by the Council for Aid to Education (CAE). The ranking was published in the CAE's 2015 Voluntary Support of Education annual report, a primary source of information on private giving to more than 1,000 higher-education institutions in the United States.
This also marks the seventh consecutive year MCC Foundation ranked No. 1 in unrestricted giving among SUNY's 30 community colleges.

"Unrestricted giving is critical to the success of MCC students because it enables the college to respond immediately to student needs and new opportunities," says MCC Foundation Executive Director Diane Shoger. "It's a powerful tool that can help students needing financial assistance stay on track and provide the seed money needed to enhance learning experiences for students through partnerships and programs. Unrestricted gifts to the MCC Foundation empowers both learning and teaching at the college."

AFMCC Day of Giving Monday, May 16th

The Monroe Community College Foundation's first MCC Day of Giving is Monday, May 16. The MCC community, including friends, donors, students, faculty, staff and retirees are encouraged to make a gift to the 2015-2016 Annual Fund for Monroe Community College on May 16 in celebration of the important role the College plays in the Greater Rochester community.

The Annual Fund supports scholarships, faculty enrichment grants, learning-environment upgrades and seed money for innovative programs that encourage lifelong learning. When YOU make a gift, you show MCC students and scholarship recipients like Arianna and Brianna Thomas that you care and want to help students grow and succeed. Arianna and Brianna plan to graduate in June.

According to Arianna and Brianna, "When we look back at our time at MCC, we'll be able to say we remember you, we remember what you did for us, and hopefully we can do that for someone else someday. Please give."
