New Scholarships Offer Opportunities
for MCC Students
The number of scholarship funds managed by the MCC Foundation at Monroe Community College continues to grow thanks to the generosity of dedicated private philanthropists, businesses, organizations and foundations. The Spring 2016 application period is now open - the deadline is March 15. MCC students, including newly admitted students, should apply for scholarships via MCC's Scholarships Online.
This spring there are several new scholarships available to deserving students, including:
Altrusa International of Rochester, NY, Inc. Scholarship supports students enrolled at MCC who are overcoming unique personal and financial challenges and are seeking a better life for themselves and their families through the pursuit of higher education.
Gene Haas Scholarship seeks to close the middle skill gap that exists within the advanced manufacturing sector in the Finger Lakes region by strengthening the pipeline of new students pursuing this in-demand career pathway.
Officer Daryl Pierson '07 Memorial Scholarship honors the memory and service of Rochester Police Officer and MCC alumnus Daryl Pierson, who died in the line of duty in September 2014. An anonymous $10,000 pledge has initiated the scholarship and the donor encourages others to help endow the scholarship to create an everlasting tribute to Daryl.
Richard A. Nasca Memorial Scholarship for Optics Excellence was established by the Corning Incorporated Foundation to honor the tireless dedication and passion of Richard A. "Rick" Nasca. A finishing technology leader at Corning Fairport, Rick was an extraordinary leader who worked tirelessly with MCC to invigorate the college's Optical Systems Technology program. The scholarship will forever honor Rick's memory and provide an extraordinary source of inspiration to the deserving students selected to receive this support.
STAR Power Endowed Scholarship benefits MCC students who are single parents and heads of household. This scholarship was started by the women of the MCC Foundation Board of Directors and offers four scholarships a year to single parents striving to attain an education and make a better life for their families.
