STAR Power is Shining Brightly

MCC Foundation Executive Committee Member Lauren Dixon hosted a vibrant STAR Power reception for 40 women at her home in September. Led by Flor Coln and Kathy Pavelka '79, the women of the Foundation board launched the STAR Power initiative to raise scholarship funds for single parents who are pursuing higher education at MCC. MCC alumnae Penny Crudup '12 and Dr. Susan Spencer '07 inspired the group with their personal stories of perseverance, and how MCC helped them discover their potential.

Donors to STAR Power typically make a five-year pledge of support to the initiative.

Alumni Week and Homecoming Points Students in the Right Direction for Academic Success

Thanks to more than 2,000 alumni, supporters and students, Alumni Week and Homecoming events helped raise $37,400 to support student success at MCC. Congratulations to our scholarship winners: Justin Arendt, Edgar Colon Dominguez, Alea Jones, Michael McCann, Rebecca Owens and John Wu.

Homecoming weekend started with students and staff celebrating Spirit Day with the annual Faculty vs. Students basketball game - the faculty came out victorious this year. On Saturday, men's alumni soccer players got together for a friendly match which was followed by MCC's 9th Annual 5K Walk/Run for Scholarships, tailgate party and Tribunes soccer matches. The day concluded with an alumni art exhibit and lecture in the Mercer Gallery. Presenting sponsor Verizon Wireless helped make it possible to award scholarships totaling $5,000 to six current MCC students that very same day.

We are proud of all our partners within the college community that made Alumni Week and Homecoming 2015 possible.

Be sure to save the date of Saturday, October 8, 2016, for MCC's 10th Annual 5K Walk/Run for Scholarships and Homecoming celebration!
