Conversations Beat Collateral

These days with all the Internet Marketing, social media, variable data printing, and other cool new technology, it is tempting to get caught up in content generation and perfecting your marketing collateral. While all of those tools can be effective and probably should be a part of your marketing plan, I think most people need to remember what those tools were designed to do, which is start a conversation.

At Sandler Training, we define sales and marketing like this. Marketing makes the phone ring; Sales converts it to business. We also use the "tee pee" metaphor. Each of your marketing tools are polls in the support of your marketing tee pee. Conversations are the rope at the top that tie it all together and allow your sales and marketing efforts to stand on their own.
