 Kelso Kaleidoscope

News from Principal Schweitzer

Welcome to an exciting new year at Kelso! Thank you to all our volunteers and families that made our Open House a success! We had a great turnout and it was fun seeing all the tie dye on the first day.  Picture packets went home if you are interested in an all-school picture.   We are also grateful to the volunteers who helped beautify and get us ready for the school year.  A couple important pieces of information as we start the school year:

Summer Scholars: For those students that choose to continue weekly math and literacy work throughout the summer, we will recognize them as "summer scholars".They will be recognized with stars on the board, a certificate, and recognition at our September assembly. Please have your student turn in their scholars calendar by Friday, September 13th.

We implemented a new job application for 4th and 5th graders interested in helping out around the school.  Please have those turned in by Friday the 13th as well.

We have two themes for Kelso this year: Books and Health.  We will be focusing on stressing a love for reading through books this year, and tying this theme into our OBOB preparation and our new Artist in Residence that will be joining us this fall to do some work combining books and art.  We will also continue and expand our Fit Kids program that we started in a couple of classrooms last year, and incorporate healthy lifestyle information into our classrooms.

Well update- Repairs are in the works for our well, we continue to have functioning bathrooms and drinking fountains, but have portapotties and water coolers on site in case they are needed.  We hope to have this issue resolved very soon.

Thank you everyone! We are excited for another great year at Kelso!

Teacher Feature
Hello from Mrs. Burden's class! Jenai is a veteran teacher in the school district who we are thrilled to have as our kindergarten teacher.  To start off the school year she is focused on incorporating technology into the classroom through iPads and Smartboards that provide engaging opportunities for students to practice their skills.  Additionally, she is working to teach the new kindergarteners the routines of school, and instill in them a love of school and learning while building a strong academic foundation.  They are starting off the year with self-portraits, be on the lookout for them in the hallway.

News from the KCC

KCC is excited for our first meeting of the year!  It will be on September the 10th at 3:45pm in the Library.  We would love to see all of you parents that can make it.  We will be talking about the needs of our school and how we, as a community, are planning on meeting those needs.  We need new ideas for fundraising, we have some options right now but would love to hear other ideas.

Speaking of fundraising, the KCC is trying to minimize our fundraisers down to two fundraisers for this school year.  We will be discussing our Jog-A-Thon, which is our first fundraiser coming up in a couple of weeks.  We are hoping to raise enough money for I-pads in our classrooms.  The only way this will be successful is with your help, I know we can do it!

Be on the look out for our KCC Facebook page!!!

Thank you!
