"What is more important to a library than anything else -
than everything else - is the fact that it exists."
Jessie F. Hallett Memorial Library

Greetings!

Happy New Year from the Jessie F. Hallett Memorial Library.

During 2013, we will be celebrating 35 years.  In 1978, Mr. Hallett saw to it that his community had the finest Library...in memory of his wife, Jessie Fern.  We are proud to provide the latest in technology, programming, materials and services to ALL.

35th anniversary  We look forward to the next year with our eyes open to opportunities and challenges.  Once again we will ask the community to help us meet our $35,000 funding goal. We are humbled by the support we receive and are fortunate to have so many value their Library...this has been evident in the Library Stories people have shared. We will continue to collect Library Stories during 2013.

We will continue to promote our "ACCESS4ALL" Literacy & Technology grant from the Otto Bremer Foundation with MORE ebook purchases (we hope to have 1500 titles by summer's end) and our partnership with CRMC and our schools. We will launch our ipad program during February's "LOVE YOUR LIBRARY" promotions. We will seek out new Friends for our JFHML Friends Foundation by meeting with local business in our Cuyuna Lakes community.

If you have received a new electronic reader over the Holidays, bring in your device (ipad, Nook, Kindle, etc.) and our Whiz Kid Student Worker, Abby Smith, will get you set up and ready to read from our collection of e-books.  Abby is available on Mondays 4-6 and Tuesdays 4-8.

We have learned that by working together, clearly communicating our funding needs and marketing all that we have to offer, the end result is ownership by each individual to their Library...a place where families meet, technology is accessible and connections are being made with activities, programming and Volunteer opportunities.

Our JANUARY Library Story is by Shirley Anderson:

The Hallett Library is my favorite Library in this area! I live in Emily and have available two other libraries plus the traveling Kitchigami bus library, all closer than Crosby. However, my main library is the Hallett Memorial Library. The staff is super friendly and helpful. If I ask about a book, the librarian checks the computer. If it is not in, I'm asked if I want to be on the waiting list. If it is in and on the shelf, the librarian asks if I would like to check it out and offers to go and get it for me. Another plus at the Hallett Library is that if a book is not part of the library collection, the title is recorded and often purchased. I then get a call that informs me that the book is waiting for me at the Library.

Other interesting features at Hallett are the annual "Hot Reads for Cold Nights" program, the story time for children and many special evening programs scattered throughout the years. The Backstreet Bookstore is a nice addition. The creativity being applied to recycling books, and the new look of the women's restroom are added features.

My congratulations and thanks to all who make the Hallett Library so special for the community.
