Federal Highway Administration
In 2010 and 2011, FHWA sponsored five DOTs and MPOs to conduct systems-level vulnerability and risk assessments of infrastructure that will likely be impacted by climate change effects. FHWA used the experiences of those pilots to develop a Climate Change and Extreme Weather Vulnerability Assessment Framework. FHWA plans to further build on the framework with experiences and lessons learned from this new pilot program. The pilots are intended to help create a more robust and consistent way of addressing vulnerability and risk to climate change and extreme weather events in the decision-making of transportation agencies. FHWA is seeking proposals from state DOT's and MPOs to develop a pilot approach to conducting climate change and extreme weather vulnerability assessments of transportation infrastructure and analyze options for adapting and improving resiliency.
Information regarding the pilot and instructions for submitting proposals are below. This pilot program is being jointly sponsored by the FHWA Office of Environment, Planning and Realty, and the Office of Infrastructure. Click here for the pilot program website. Project descriptions should be submitted to the FHWA division office by January 22, 2013. The announcement of selected pilot projects is February 19, 2013. |
