On behalf of Bernie Schweiss, Board Chair, and their fellow board members, I want to thank Joe Gunn, Tom Pollihan, and Isaac Butler for their valuable service to Boys Hope Girls Hope. As they transition from board membership, we wish them the best and hope they remain close to the BHGH program and scholars that they have helped over the years.
I am excited to announce the newest members of our board: Dean VandeKamp, Global Coordinating Partner at Ernst and Young; Richard Nemanick, Retired President of the Lorvic Group and VP of Young Innovations; and Fr. Ralph Houlihan S.J., lifelong educational leader currently teaching at St. Louis University High School.
Dean is drawn to Boys Hope Girls Hope because of its "Success based outcomes, the commitment of its leadership and board, and the integration of the faith dimension." Rich has "...a great belief in education and in giving young people a path to success. Boys Hope Girls Hope does this every day."
Fr. Houlihan is no newcomer to Boys Hope Girls Hope. As he states, "I worked with Fr. Paul Sheridan to establish the first Boys Hope Girls Hope home in St. Louis (in 1977) and in opening the first home in Denver. I have a strong belief in the program. It changes the lives of young people."
I could not be more pleased about the addition of Dean, Rich, and Fr. Houlihan to our board of directors. All three have enjoyed great success and the esteem of their peers because of their hard work, sound judgment, and generosity of spirit. As they help fuel and shape the growth of our organization, they also serve as wonderful role models of the highest character for our youth to emulate.

All fourteen of our new 8th grade Hope Prep scholars were recently asked to participate as greeters, helping to welcome Ferguson Florissant board members to a board meeting at Berkley Middle School. Using their personal development skills, they shook hands and provided board members with a tour of the school, pointing out accomplishments of students and offering information about the Hope Prep program.
Additionally, four of the new 8th grade Hope Prep scholars were selected to be peer mediators for the 2012-13 school year. As mediators, Teryon, Taujh, Brittany and Bri'aiona's duties include assisting fellow students work through problems and social issues with the help of the staff and guidance counselor at Berkeley Middle. |
