Finding a New Career in An Unexpected Place: My Mailbox

It started with a postcard. That is how I first found out about the Allstate opportunity. I was working in financial services at the time so I already had the appropriate licenses. I was looking for a change and I went for it. Seven and a half years later, my only regret is that I didn't learn about becoming an Allstate agent a decade earlier.

 

The best thing about the Allstate opportunity is that I am in control of my own destiny.

 

I know a lot of people who are unhappy with their bosses. Being an agency owner takes a lot of work, of course, but knowing that I am the boss of my own agency motivates me to work harder.

 

Allstate's support has been key to my success, especially in the beginning because I started my agency from scratch. I looked at the compensation charts for the first year and committed myself to meeting those goals. I knew I had to hit the ground running in order to make it work for me. I am proud to say I did make those goals and I acknowledge it was a team effort.

 

My father has helped me out immeasurably. He was retiring from his long-term career around the time I was opening my agency. I half-jokingly mentioned I would be looking for someone with a good work ethic and that I would accept his application, never thinking he would take me up on it. To my surprise and delight, he called me a few months later and said, "I just earned my insurance license. When do you want me to start?" Now I have the pleasure of working with him. He is dependable, reliable and has exceptional people skills.

 

I also enjoy being active with some of The Allstate Foundation's initiatives. Most recently, I participated in the Purple Purse campaign during October, which raised $250,000 for the YWCA to help empower survivors of domestic violence.

 

Whether it's being involved in a philanthropic cause or talking to a prospect or a customer, I believe in treating people with respect. The "In Good Hands" language is not just a slogan; it's a call to action. For me, it's another reason why being an Allstate agent continues to be such a good fit.
