Greetings!
Dear West Mercer families,
As the hectic fall settles into the (slightly) less hectic winter, winter break offers us some time to relax, take stock, and gear up for the new year to come. Check out the Community Events section for sports and activities for 2016. And with January's winter storms ahead, be sure to sign up for winter weather flash alerts so that you can get the latest news on school delays and closures.
Today is the Winter Music Assembly, and tomorrow the kids can start their festivities early by dressing up for the Student Council's Holiday Spirit Day -- read below for more information.
Happy holidays, and best wishes for safe travels and joyful staycations!
Sincerely,
West Mercer PTA

WEST MERCER ANNOUNCEMENTS
| | |
|
This Friday, Student Council presents Holiday Spirit Day at West Mercer! Around the world, families come together to celebrate different events. Does your family celebrate Hanukkah? Christmas?Kwanzaa? Three Kings Day? St. Lucia Day? Boxing Day? The New Year? Winter Wonderland? Or one of our favorites that is becoming a December tradition...The Seahawks push to be in the Play-Offs!? Is another holiday special to you and your family?
Student Council would like you to show your spirit by wearing something that shows a festival, event or holiday that your family celebrates together. You can wear holiday colors, a unique snowman sweater, a Happy New Year crown or something traditional. Be a part of Holiday Spirit Day this Friday! Thank you and Go West Mercer Wolves!

Thank you West Mercer Parents and Birthday Kids for supporting our Birthday Book Program.
103 beautiful books went out for birthdays in Sept-Nov! Books were labeled with the birthday child's name and birthday and included a special bookmark.
It is not too late to honor your child with a Birthday Book. The application is online with the PTA information. "Children are made readers on the laps of their parents"

Mercer Island School District's three elementary schools will host elementary visitation days twice in 2016, on January 28 and May 13.
The visitation days are primarily for out-of district families thinking about moving to Mercer Island, or residents of Mercer Island considering enrolling their children in our school district. Visitation hours will be from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. The district's fourth elementary school, Northwood, will open by the start of the 2016-17 school year. Because Northwood is still under construction, its visitation day is planned for June, 2016.

Mercer Island School District will begin accepting kindergarten registrations on Wednesday, January 20, 2016. For parents seeking information about the district's kindergarten program and registration process, kindergarten information sessions will be held for each elementary school on Tuesday, Jan. 19.
District staff will be present at each school to answer questions, discuss educational programs available, and distribute registration packets. Families who cannot attend may pick up a registration packet at one of the schools or district office or visit the district website. Additionally, families uncertain about their home school attendance area can find more information by visiting the district website or by calling Mary Newcomer at 206-230-6336.
