Greetings!
Dear West Mercer families,
With school winding down, we want to once again thank all of you who have volunteered with the West Mercer PTA this year. Thousands of volunteer hours have been spent helping to make West Mercer an exceptional school for our students, families and staff. This year, over 340 individual volunteers contributed to our school. With West Mercer's population at just over 670 students, that is an amazing adult to child ratio! Some of you helped with a one time event or program while others volunteered much more extensively. We are personally thankful for you all! Your time and energy adds warmth, enrichment and opportunity to our school community. It's our hope that each of you feels appreciated and recognized for all of your hard work and generosity!
As our summer vacation begins today, we wish you a safe and relaxing break. You deserve it!
Warmly,
Andrea and Christina

Thank You from MI Parent Edge and Volunteer Opportunities!
We've navigated our kids' anxieties with Chris McCurry; considered the social and emotional well-being of boys in "The Mask You Live In;" learned the difference between "app-dependent" and "app-enabled" with Katie Davis; and we discovered what's really going on between adolescent boys and girls with Rosalind Wiseman.
Thank you for supporting these events!
We look forward to bringing more thought-provoking speakers & topics in 2015-2016.
Seeking Parent Edge Committee Members: If you have enjoyed attending Parent Edge events and would like to work with a dynamic team in planning and implementing these events, then Parent Edge wants to talk to you! We are looking for new members to join our committee. Responsibilities include: attending monthly committee meetings, representing your school, promoting events at your school and in the community, researching and recommending topics and speakers, and assisting at events. We would love for you to join us!
Please contact Suzanne McIntosh at suzannemcint@gmail.com or Kathy Middleton at sunnyinseattle@comcast.net to volunteer or ask questions.

Lego Summer Camps for the Serious Builder!
Session One, June 29-July 3: Dragons, Elves, and Wizards, will develop a landscape and scenes based on the general theme of Medieval Fantasy. Participants will learn building techniques throughout the week and apply them to planning and building their own landscape section and scene that will be part of a larger collaborative project. Together they will plot out a story, the scenery, props, and characters, and then take on individual sections to build (and take home), learn the basics of stop motion animation and film a short section to tell the adventure they develop, using the models they have created. Participants will need to bring an iPad with the free app, LEGO Movie Maker installed. Ages 8-14.

Session Two, August 24-28: Personalized Modular Building, is a class intended for advanced builders interested in learning how to design and build their own modular building. We will look at how real architectural details can be recreated, different styles of architecture appropriate for a modular design, how to build using standards established in the theme, and the importance of planning and interior design to making for a complete design. Ages 8-14.
