Movie Night Volunteer Thanks

Thank you to all of the wonderful teachers, parents and middle schoolers who gave up their evening to help make Island Park's movie night so much fun and such a successful
fundraising event for our school.

Together we raised over $3700 for Learning Support programs!

Extra special thanks to Mr and Mrs Hamp once again for lending a hand to keep it all together!

Vet's Day
Island Books Logo
Great News!
Our Island Books Brunch and Browse was a wonderful success again this year, with much thanks going to Laurie Raisys, the new owner, and the staff of Island Books for hosting us.

Island Park sales netted almost $9000, with over $1700 going to our PTA! The Island Park school library also benefits from this great event, receiving 10 books as donations. Congratulations to Sharon Jarnigan who won a $50 gift card to Island Books in the teacher raffle.

Special thanks to Tiffany Holland, Alex Hart, Jamie Hochman-Herz, Kristina Mehas, and Danielle Orr-Bement who volunteered their time, resources, and the delicious brunch bites; they were wonderful and much appreciated. A BIG thank you to Shelley Boyle who went above and beyond for this great event.

A heartfelt thanks to ALL of our shoppers; parents, friends, family, neighbors, your support is palpable. Each year you mark your calendars, spread the word and come in droves to support a beloved, local business and our school. We couldn't do it without you.

Counselor's Corner
The holidays are coming, like it or not!

The holidays can be a time of relaxation and joy and, for many of us, can bring stress, anger and sadness.

As our children open up gift catalogs, see the billions of television commercials and start their wish lists, I am reminded of the words of Dr. Michael Rothenberg, former director of Child Psychiatry and Pediatrics at the University of Washington who states that "no toy can substitute for even a few minutes of warm, loving and supportive interaction between a child and his or her parent(s)".

Our children at Island Park are learning about mindfulness and empathy. Consider taking time out of busy schedules to sit with your child and allow them to teach you what they have been learning. Ask them about Self Talk, discuss with them what empathy means for your family, ask them to show you their anchor and breathe with them for a few minutes, in through your nose, out through your mouth, and notice what is around you.

We all continue to feel like there is so much to do and not enough time to do it, which leads to negative stress. This stress in turn is making us sick and is taking a toll on our health. According to Stephanie Ponder, author of the article "Enjoy life more by doing less" our society's sustained busyness is taking a toll on the quality of our work along with our personal relationships. She talks about "stress addiction", where a high-speed lifestyle is like a drug...it changes the chemistry of the body and the brain.

Find your sweet spot in the slow movement. Sometimes there is a lot to learn from a moment of silence.
