October 7, 6-7pm
Mercer Island High School Commons,
9100 SE 42nd Street
Mercer Island School District will be hosting a Welcome Reception on October 7th for all families new to the district.
This event is an opportunity to meet and mingle with members of the School Board and key school district personnel, who will be available to answer questions and offer assistance on issues or concerns new parents may have about our schools. Also on hand will be several parents serving as "new parent ambassadors," including some who also serve on the school district's Diversity Advisory Committee. These parents will be available to help new families navigate through our school district and/or direct them to the resources they need.
All new families are invited. Pizza and beverages will be provided. If you are a returning parent who would like to help welcome our new families by serving as a "new parent ambassador," please contact your PTA President at president@islandparkpta.org

Counselor's Corner
Share the love
Hello families, many of you may have noticed little fabric hearts around our school.
They are little comfort items I give out to students who come to my office and to either keep on their desk, take home with them, or leave in their pockets, backpacks or coats. It's a reminder of how special they are and that they are loved. My ultimate goal is for every kid at Island Park to get a heart at some point in their time here.
Our parents, staff and students are incredibly generous and have been making them for me. However, I am almost running out and would welcome anyone who knows how to sew to help make more for us.
Each person who makes them brings their own style and imagination so all of the hearts are very different. Some are made out of fleece, some are stuffed with beans, some with cotton, some have attached beads, charms and some have tiny pockets. They are all small enough not to be a distraction and could fit inside a pocket, about 2-3 inches in size.
