FROM THE PTA

Movie Night was a huge success!  200+ kids attended and we raised over $4,000 towards our annual Learning Support goal.  Kudos to Deborah Lurie and Julene Levin for organizing the night.  A big thanks to Karla Olson for ensuring the check-in process was smooth and quick, and thanks to all the parents that volunteered their time.  Finally a very special thank you to
the fabulous staff members who gave their time: Mr. & Mrs. Hamp, Jan Vetter,  Ashley Bossie, Samantha Mosely, Kate Lepp, Liana Montague and her daughter.  Also, Dawn Schiller, our janitor, Thach Nguyen and our Principal, Mr. Hoffman!  It takes a village.

Please Join us for Giving from the Heart Breakfast
A benefit for MI Youth & Family Services

Wednesday, February 11   7:30 - 8:30 AM   At MI Community & Event Center

Every February marks a special and important event for the Island Park and Mercer Island Community: The MIYFS Giving from the Heart Breakfast.  The City of Mercer Island is unique in that it provides a broad range of multi-generational and community based services for the residents of Mercer Island through MIYFS, located at Luther Burbank Park.  Services include:
  • Family Assistance including emergency assistance, a food bank, employment assistance and a job board, as well as connections to related services provided on a local, state and federal level.
  • School-Based Services including mental health counselors in each of our public schools, and drug and alcohol prevention and intervention experts at our middle and high school provide support for children, parents and teachers through counseling, consultation, programs and groups.
  • Counseling Services for individuals of all ages, couples and families are available at our Luther Burbank offices on a sliding fee scale.
  • Senior Services: a dedicated geriatric specialist provides services to seniors and their family on a full range of issues related to aging including consultation, counseling and care management.
  • Communities That Care - a unique cross-community effort focused on preventing the harm caused by youth drug and alcohol use in our community.
  • Youth Development Programs where teens learn the importance and value of giving back through facilitated volunteer and service learning opportunities.
  • Diversion and Early Intervention programs where arrested youth are re-focused on positive learning experiences while being held accountable for illegal behavior.
  • Mercer Island Thrift Shop where the MIYFS business goals are realized through giving, volunteering, work-skill development and sustainability

Together we Eagles can make a difference in the lives of our Mercer Island community!  There is no fee to attend. There will be a request for suggested $250 donation to MIYFS.  Register at  Giving from the Heart     Questions? Contact Pam Hinnen or Catheryne Nguyen

A huge THANK YOU to all of the Eagle Book donors! The Eagle Book program was established to ensure a thriving library collection. Island Park Library received generous Eagle Book donations again this school year. Your donations have allowed us to add hundreds of new books to the library collection. The Eagle Books have been ordered and received. Some books were distributed to students prior to the holiday break. The remainder of the books are being distributed throughout January. Each student donating a book will have a nameplate placed inside the cover of their book and have the opportunity to check the book out first. If you have questions regarding the program, please contact Island Park Librarian, Cathy Grant at catherine.grant@mercerislandschools.org For questions about making a donation, you can contact the PTA Treasurer at treasurer@islandparkpta.org

Parent Volunteers needed for Science Olympiad Fun Night

We are busy planning the details for the upcoming Science Olympiad Fun Night scheduled for Tuesday, May 5 from 6:00-8:00 pm. The event will be an evening of hands-on science fun for all grades!

We will need a large number of parent volunteers to make the event a success!  Volunteers will assist with student check-in, provide support to the presenters, and serve as parent guides for the small groups during the hands-on activities.

We also want to tap into the talent we have here at Island Park as we seek facilitators for the various science activities!  Facilitators of the science activities will be provided information to science present, as well as all of the materials for the activity.

If you have a background in a science field, this is a great opportunity to share your knowledge with Island Park students!

If you have questions or are interested in volunteering, please contact Michelle Ritter at  mcodyritter@yahoo.com

Bus Lost and Found - LAST CALL

lost and found

Hi Everyone,

Once again our lost and found at Ministry of Transport is overflowing.

Due to strict regulations regarding loose items in the buses, drivers will no longer be holding items on the bus to give back to students. Some drivers may be bringing them in to the school lost and found. Most will end up here at MOT. We need to purge the current stash ahead of the next wave of lost and found things that get turned in.

The DEADLINE  to pick up items before they are sent to the thrift store is FEB. 1

Thank You From the PTA Money

THANK YOU!  67% of our IP Families have donated to the annual PTA Ask Campaign.  With these donations we have funded 45% of our annual General Fund & Learning Support Budgets.
As a PTA, we fund numerous programs at Island Park that make our school a unique and wonderful place to learn. These programs could not happen without your financial support.  Click here to view PTA Programs.

Our goal is to achieve 100% donation participation from our Island Park Families.  If you have not yet donated, please consider doing so.  No donation is too small and every dollar counts.  Remember, your donation is TAX DEDUCTIBLE!  Click here to DONATE NOW!
