Message From Our IP PTA President
Happy New Year! I hope everyone had a nice holiday break and enjoyed time with friends and family. It is hard to believe it is already 2015 and that we are approaching the half way mark of the school year. Winter and Spring bring many exciting events at Island Park: Movie Night, Hoe Down, Bingo Night, Book Fair, The Spring Party.....and the list goes on. As many of you know, these special events are successful because of Parent Volunteers. WE NEED YOUR HELP! Start the New Year off right and become a part of these fun Island Park traditions and ensure they are huge hits in 2015! Please consider volunteering to help at one event. Looking forward to seeing you there! Thanks, Ashleigh Dickinson Here are the links to sign up.Hoe DownAuctionBingo Night

Common Core State Standards
Dear Island P ark Families: I hope that you had a wonderful and safe Winter Break and that this new year finds everyone healthy and ready to get back to work. It's hard to believe that even though we just started 2015 there is already talk about who might be seeking the presidency in 2016. Accordingly, don't be surprised if you start hearing politicians, on both the local and national level, addressing school issues such as common core standards while assigning both positive and negative culpability for their implementation. Washington State adopted the Common Core State Standards (CCSS) in 2011 with full implementation beginning this current school year. As a parent, you may be wondering "What are these standards expecting my child to learn and do?" I am hopeful the brief information below provides more clarity concerning the standards and how they will impact your children. Accompanying links will provide you with more complete information. READ MORE Respectfully, David Hoffman |

We gear up for the MI Rotary Run 5k on March 22, but even if you don't want to participate in that event, you are welcome to join us for the Friday runs. The first kids to attend 3 practices will earn a MI Running Club sweatshirt. Parent volunteers who like to run are welcome and encouraged to join us if your schedule permits.

Thank You From the PTA
THANK YOU! 67% of our IP Families have donated to the annual PTA Ask Campaign. With these donations we have funded 45% of our annual General Fund & Learning Support Budgets. As a PTA, we fund numerous programs at Island Park that make our school a unique and wonderful place to learn. These programs could not happen without your financial support. Click here to view PTA Programs.
Our goal is to achieve 100% donation participation from our Island Park Families. If you have not yet donated, please consider doing so. No donation is too small and every dollar counts. Remember, your donation is TAX DEDUCTIBLE! Click here to DONATE NOW!

Parent Volunteers needed for Science Olympiad Fun Night We are busy planning the details for the upcoming Science Olympiad Fun Night scheduled for Tuesday, May 5 from 6:00-8:00 pm. The event will be an evening of hands-on science fun for all grades!
We will need a large number of parent volunteers to make the event a success! Volunteers will assist with student check-in, provide support to the presenters, and serve as parent guides for the small groups during the hands-on activities.
We also want to tap into the talent we have here at Island Park as we seek facilitators for the various science activities! Facilitators of the science activities will be provided information to present, as well as all of the materials for the activity.
If you have a background in a science field, this is a great opportunity to share your knowledge with Island Park students!
If you have questions or are interested in volunteering, please contact Michelle Ritter at mcodyritter@yahoo.com
