From The Health Room

Almost every day I see kids who've bumped their heads. Usually they've either fallen down or have run into each other at recess. With these head bumps come a risk of concussion. Concussions are a temporary loss of brain function. They occur when an impact causes the brain to bang against the bone inside the skull.
If a concussion is suspected, have the child stop playing and rest. Common symptoms of concussion include: change in consciousness, sleepiness, bad headache, vomiting or seizure. If these symptoms occur, seek immediate medical attention. Symptoms may take 24-72 hours to develop. Children who've had one concussion are at a higher risk of a second.
Call 911 if any of the following occur: child can't be awakened; one pupil is larger than the other; seizure; slurred speech; or increasing confusion, restlessness or agitation. For more information click here.
Note: Please remember to pick up your children's EpiPens and medications at the end of the year. We hate to throw them away.
Your school nurse, Bradley Budrow, RN
