From The Health Room
Constipated Kids
Constipation is one of the more common causes of the tummy aches I see on a daily basis. Not drinking enough water and not eating enough fiber are contributors. Stress and some medications may be at the root. Kids also sometimes ignore urges to go when they are having fun.
Treat constipation with increased fluids. I like to see the children here using their water bottles during the day. I encourage all kids to have a cup of water when they come to me. Increased fiber helps move the bowels along. At home, sitting on the toilet for at least 10 minutes each day, at the same time, preferably after a meal can get children into healthy bowel habits.
If constipation lasts more than 2-3 weeks, see your health care provider. Click here for more information.
