Class Size Counts!  We Need Your Input!

Statewide Class Count: October 1-4th

www.classsizecountswa.com

Did you know Washington ranks 47th out of
50 states for class size? Help spread the word about Washington's class sizes by participating in the statewide class size count.  Like the Audubon Society's bird count, during the week of October 1st-4th, people across the state will count the class size of a student they know.  Participate by logging onto
www.classsizecountswa.com.  Parents, students, grandparents, educators and concerned community members are all invited to contribute to the count.

The site displays an interactive map and has information about the importance of class size and student learning.  Be a part of the count!

MIPA Needs your old toys!

The Mercer Island Preschool Association is holding its annual Toy Swap event on  red-toy-robot.jpgNovember 16th. This is a great opportunity to sell or donate your gently used toys, clothes, bikes, baby gear, books, etc. that your children have outgrown. For more information on the event, how to consign or donate your goods, and drop off times, please see www.mipreschoolassociation.org for more details.

Hearing and Vision Screening
Tuesday, October 22nd, IP library

Hearing and Vision screening will be held Tuesday, October 22nd, in the library! We will need about 40 total volunteers for the two shifts. No experience is necessary as the school nurse will provide training on the spot. It's a great way to get to know the kids, and by screening every year we are able to help a few kids to get the hearing or vision help they need to be successful!

Please contact Lori Friedman at loriRfriedman@hotmail.com to sign up!
music Volunteers Needed in the Music Room

If you can spare an hour or more a week during the months of Oct. and Nov, you can be of great help in the music room! During these months, all students in 2nd, 3rd, and 5th grades focus on the concept of melody by learning piano skills while the 4th graders learn songs on the recorder. Volunteers main focus will be to work one-on-one with students at the piano keyboards or on the recorders, giving them additional encouragement and feedback. With all the different levels and individual rates of learning, extra adult assistance is extremely important. If you, or someone you know, could volunteer in the music room, the children and I would be extremely grateful! Please contact me at susan.hamp@mercerislandschools.org
