Dear Mercer Island Elementary Families,
The school leadership teams are very busy preparing for the 2013-2014 year. We are all excited about the opportunities the new school year brings for academic, social, and emotional growth. To help the schools, students and all or our parents prepare for September 3rd, we have a few updates to get out to the school communities.
- First Day of School- September 3rd
- New School Start Times- school will start at 9:10 this year instead of 9:15. Please look for communication from the transportation department about changes to the bus pick-up times.
- Moving?- If you have moved over the summer or your child will not return to Mercer Island School District, please notify the front office of the school your child attended. We need to have accurate student counts to ensure equitable class assignments this fall.
- 1st-5th Grade Class Placement- teacher assignments/class placements will be available through Skyward on August 23rd.
- Friday, August 16th - a large postcard will be mailed to all new families introducing them to Skyward.
- Week of August 19th - all new families will receive an e-mail with instructions, login & password.
- Friday, August 23rd - 5PM - Skyward opens for parents to see student placement. (Current families who have lost their password need to contact Mary Newcomer 206-236-3330.)
- Kindergarten Class Placement- families will receive a letter in the mail from the school on or around August 23rd.
- New Students and Transfer Requests - the principals met this week to discuss placements for all new students and those requesting to be transferred to a different school. These discussions will continue for the next two weeks. Not unlike the past five years, the schools will be crowded. We will do our very best to accommodate families.
- Spring Enrollments- families who enrolled in the spring but did not receive a school assignment will be notified by August 21st.
- Summer Enrollments- families who enrolled over the summer will be notified about school placement after August 21st.
- Transfer Requests- families hoping to transfer schools will be notified after all new enrollments are placed.
If you have any questions about the upcoming school year please feel free to contact the schools, visit your school's website, or contact the district office. Our goal is for all kids to have a successful transition back to school and minimize the stress that can accompany a new year by keeping families informed!
Sincerely,
