WATCH: Videos from the 2015 Synod Assembly
The 2015 Synod Assembly was a jam-packed two days of work and fellowship in Springfield, Mass., befitting our theme, "Holy Experiment in Progress."

For a look back at this year's assembly, we've collected a few videos from our time in Springfield, including the Bishop's Report and the address from our keynote speaker, Molly Phinney Baskette (above).

Want to relive the assembly? Want to see what you missed? Check out the videos by clicking here!

Also, at NESynod.org, we congratulate Sanctuary (Marshfield, Mass.) and Grace (Naugatuck, Conn.), our two newest congregations, whom we officially welcomed at this year's assembly.

Bishop Jim Hazelwood has some thoughts on his blog, including his highlight of the assembly.
Three Guys and a Motorcycle Ride
After last year's wildly successful World Hunger Ride, Bishop James Hazelwood is enlisting the help of Steve Dumas and Bishop Rick Hoyme of the Northwest Wisconsin Synod for another trip. This time, they're riding to the ELCA Youth Gathering in Detroit. Want to join in?

The global water crisis doesn't always make headlines. But the truth is that it claims more lives each year than war. Globally, 1.8 billion people - that's about one out of every four people in our world - drink from contaminated water sources. Unsafe water leads to illnesses that claim the lives of 840,000 people each year, almost half of whom are children under the age of 5.

Your gift helps local communities provide water for drinking and cooking, growing crops, and improving sanitation and hygiene, as well as providing for ongoing health education, training and maintenance for long-term sustainable access to water in the community.

Jim, Steve and Rick will start their engines soon, so get on your bikes and ride!

The New England Synod's Annual Appeal

The New England Synod's Annual Appeal focuses on the theme of ReThink, ReImagine, and ReBirth. The goal is to provide support through funding for the many missions and initiatives throughout the Synod, none of which would be possible without the generous support of individual and congregational donations.

Our annual appeal brochure outlines some of the ways your support has aided ministry and celebrates all of the people and churches that have shown generosity in the last year. To download your copy, click here.

Hammonasset 2015 - Registration is open!
Hammonasset Logo Sept. 11-13
Hammonasset State Beach
Madison, Conn.

This year's Hammonasset Gathering is slated for Sept. 11-13, at Hammonasset State Beach in Madison, Conn., and registration is now open. To register, click here to be taken to the HammoConnect registration page. The cost is $50/person for the youth event. Registration for Family Hammo is also available at HammoConnect.com by clicking on HAMMONASSET FOR FAMILIES.

Hammonasset is an annual gathering of New England youth, including more than 60 church youth groups from all six New England states. This year's theme is "Signed, Sealed, Delivered."

"Did you ever wonder what it means at a baptism when the pastor marks a cross on the child's forehead and says '...child of God, you have been sealed by the Holy Spirit and marked with the cross of Christ forever.'?" reads the hammoconnect.com description of this year's theme. "Ephesians 1:13-14 says: 'In Him you also ... were marked with the seal of the promised Holy Spirit; this is the pledge of our inheritance toward redemption as God's own people ...' The seal is a sign of authentication or confirmation and designates ownership, and therefore protection by the Holy Spirit. The pledge is like a down payment that secures the promise of the entire future inheritance (as God's children) of salvation in Christ Jesus.

"Martin Luther tells us that in baptism God '...showers upon us the vast and boundless riches of his grace.' it is a 'new birth,' through which we become '...children of life, heirs of all God's possessions, God's own children, and brothers and sisters of Christ."

Music at this year's gathering will come from the Andy Needham Band, and the featured speaker is Knute Ogren, Director of Development and Communications at Calumet Lutheran Camp & Conference Center.

News & Notes
Pastor to perform on "A Prairie Home Companion"
Rev. Rachel Manke, pastor at First Lutheran Church in Malden, Mass., and accomplished ukelele player, will stand in front of a congregation of a different kind on June 27, when she joins the legendary Garrison Keillor and his beloved traveling show, "A Prairie Home Companion," at Tanglewood in Lenox, Mass.

According to Rachel's website, she "has been playing the uke since 1999 (before Y2K hit), before it was cool. She says that she does not play "hipster ukulele". However, the claim to be playing "before it was cool" might render that point moot."

Rachel will join Keillor for A Prairie Home Companion's popular artists series on June 27 at Tanglewood's legendary Koussevitzky Music Shed, the summer home of the Boston Pops, for a show that will begin at 5:45 p.m. Click here to purchase tickets.

The show will also be broadcast on radio and made available as a podcast at the Prairie Home Companion website

For more information on Pastor Manke's musical career, click here to visit her website.
