What is Hammonasset?
From the website: Hammonasset is also the premier - ok, only - annual gathering of youth throughout the New England Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA). More than three decades ago a small group of Lutheran churches in Connecticut decided to get together for a youth camping weekend. They repeated the campout in subsequent years, adding people and activities. From this modest beginning, the event we call Hammonasset has grown to include more than 60 church youth groups from all six New England states. Since that first gathering, the event has grown to include 800+ attendees, nationally-known speakers, great live bands, small group Bible study, and inspirational worship. Speakers and bands frequently comment that "no other synod does anything like Hammonasset."  Well, shucks ... we try.

This year's gathering is Sept. 6-8 at Hammonasset Beach State Park in Madison, Conn.

A Military & Family Wellness Day

Saturday, Aug. 3, 9 a.m.-4 p.m.

Immanuel Lutheran Church

647 North Main St., Attleboro, Mass.

One of our military community partners has advised us to create a day of grace and care for deployed soldiers and their families, or veterans and their families who are recovering from the effects of military life. Our care for all people comes before our questions about the politics of war.

We welcome participants, as well as volunteers to help as: art assistants, yoga teachers, chair massage therapists, Reiki practitioners, and spiritual directors as well as assistants for set up, clean up, and food prep. With offers to help, or questions, please contact the office at office@immanuellc.org.

Our Children, Climate, Faith Symposium

Aug. 16-18

Strafford, Vt.

Register here

This Symposium Program will move you well beyond simply listening to fantastic speakers, including Bill McKibben (350.org), Mary Evelyn Tucker (Yale), Shyla Nelson (One Earth, One Voice), Rabbi Michael Cohen (Arava Institute) and more. Individually and as a group, we will explore the connection between climate disruption and the intensification of social injustice around the world and at home. We will work to remember the historical central role of people of faith in every important movement for social justice. And we will seek to understand what our response is as people of faith and spirituality.

Please register now. The registration fee is $75, and can be paid using credit cards or PayPal online. Three meals are included, so we know this symposium will nourish mind and body!

Update on job listings policy

Due to the (welcomed) increase in employment opportunities sent in for synod-wide communication, we have updated our policy for NES News listings. Job postings will run for two weeks in the synod's weekly NES News and/or Bishop's E-News, and then will be removed to make space for new listings. The listings will also be edited, so we urge you to submit them as 2-3 sentence listings with a contact if job seekers seek further information. Readers are encouraged to retain weekly emails if they wish to reference the job listings past their two-week publication period.
