Climate Revival

April 27

Copley Square, Boston

The New England Regional Environmental Ministries are organizing a one-day Climate Revival event in Boston's Copley Square on April 27. The event will be led by The Rev. Geoffrey Black, General Minister and President of the United Church of Christ, and The Most Rev. Katharine Jefferts Schori, Presiding Bishop of the Episcopal Church.

Come together for an inspirational day of preaching, worship, prayers, and music in celebration of the splendor of Creation, mourn its desecration, and advocate for restoration and renewal. Led by national and international religious leaders, the gathering will call upon the Holy Spirit and rise up to stabilize the climate and to create a better future. Churches will have an opportunity to participate in an informational fair about their environmental work.

Desmond Tutu, Archbishop Emeritus South Africa, and Bill McKibben, author and environmentalist, will send video messages. The event runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Old South Church, 645 Boylston St., and Trinity Church, 206 Clarendon St., in Boston.

Bringing an artist's eye to the stations of the cross

"I can't draw people," Cynthia Stroschein said with a shrug.

Standing in front of her painting, a depiction of the Garden of Gethsemane, Stroschein explained that when Pastor Leslie Scanlon announced the idea of having members of the Lutheran Church of Framingham draw, paint, photograph or sew pieces to illustrate the stations of the cross, she knew what she wanted to do.

"First I had a different [station], but I decided I didn't want to do that one, and this one I knew I could do without having a figure in it," said Stroschein, a Marlborough resident and LCF member since 1972.

Music Minister Wanted

The Lutheran Church of St. Mark (ELCA), Glastonbury, Conn., is a warm and spirited pastoral-sized (roughly 80 in attendance on a Sunday morning during the program year) Lutheran church with new clergy leadership seeking an experienced organist and choir director. Our all-volunteer adult choir comprises 8-10 members and rehearses weekly on Thursday evenings and Sunday mornings. We seek a music director with a love of music as a means of ministry; competence in choral conducting and playing the organ; and a heart for leading congregational singing. Experience in liturgical worship is important, as is a willingness to work outside-the-box, a sense of humor, and flexibility. The successful candidate will have the ability to work collaboratively with clergy and music committee, yet will also be self-organized and exercise thoughtful leadership of the congregation. The director will prepare music (prelude, postlude, hymns, service music, and choir anthems) for our 8 and 10:15 a.m. Sunday services, and for special services throughout the year; direct the adult and junior choir, and attend a weekly staff meeting as needed. The position is open until filled. For more information, please contact Pastor Lydia Wittman Grebe at pastor@stmarkglastonbury.org or 860-633-1188. Compensation commensurate with credentials and experience, in consultation with the national guidelines of the American Guild of Organists.
