Ash Wednesday

Ash WednesdayAsh Wednesday Idea

Ash Wednesday idea -  A couple years ago, my mother was in the hospital in California. It happened to be Ash Wednesday and I was on a plane in route to visit. I had called a friend of mine, Pastor Kurt Christenson, and asked if he could visit her while I was on my way. Kurt agreed and head to the hospital following a morning Ash Wednesday worship, so he arrived around midday. As he entered the main lobby a woman saw his collar and ashes on his forehead and asked if she could receive some ashes. All he had with him was the remnant on his own forehead - which he gladly shared. That event came to mind when I saw this article.  It could be a worthwhile public witness. Pastors could consider spending a morning at Starbuck, Dunkin Donuts, a local coffee shop or Panera with ashes. I'll be in Pittsfield, MA on Ash Wednesday, and am invited to a bar following evening worship. I'm thinking of bringing ashes with me into the bar. One way of bringing the church into the public square.
