Greetings!
A new year always brings hope and eager anticipation that something is coming. We enter 2013 with New Year resolutions or maybe simply commitments to lose weight, get our finances in order, learn a new hobby, add a skill to our resume, spend more time with the kids. My brother and his wife engage in a practice of purging their belongings every year at this time. They take a day and sift through all their belongings. If they have not used something in the last twelve months...they toss it.
That's a kind of 21st century consumerist act of repentance. Perhaps we could add a brief order of sifting and tossing to our weekly, monthly or annual liturgy - not the liturgy on Sunday in worship, the liturgy of life. The work of the people includes a sifting and tossing, a purging, a letting go and a giving over, a confession and forgiveness.
What needs sifting and purging in your life? What are you hoping God will do to lead you along that path?
It's a new year, a new time, a new opportunity to be enriched, blessed and, of course, forgiven.

Christmas Greetings from Bishop Dr. Munib A. Younan
As I sit down to write my Christmas message during this Advent season, there are no words that touch me more deeply than these words from Isaiah chapter 40, "Comfort, O Comfort my people, says your God." During this time I have been moved by the emotions associated with the beginning of life and the end of life, of birth and death. And I am very much aware that life begins and ends with a need for comfort. And in between, there is enough pain and suffering to go around, for people to cry out, "We are all like grass that withers, and flowers that fade." Continue Reading Bishop Younan's message here |
