New England Congregations in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy. Hurricane Sandy has impacted a number of our congregations. We are still in the process of trying to connect with all of our churches and pastors, however, power outages have impeded that process. We are aware of many church buildings without power, especially in Rhode Island and the coastal sections of Connecticut. At least one pastor lost her car to a fallen tree in her front yard, though no one was hurt. We understand that several churches in the Stamford area survived the storm with minimal or no damage. The greater Bridgeport areabeen impacted by flooding and wind damage, but at this point in time we have heard of no damage to structures. Bishop Hazelwood, without power in Rhode Island, and his staff have been attempting to contact pastors and churches in the impacted areas. If you have news of your congregation please consider calling (508) 791-1530 or emailing the synod office with an update, especially if there is damage or injury. You can also post information to the Synod Facebook page or post on Twitter using the @nesynod |
Responding to Hurricane Sandy
Dear sisters and brothers in Christ,
From the Caribbean to the northern Atlantic coast, millions of people have evacuated their homes and communities due to Hurricane Sandy. Strong winds and torrential rains have led to flooding and mass destruction. The storm sent trees crashing down and left neighborhood streets looking like rivers.
Through ELCA Disaster Response, the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) is responding in areas affected by Hurricane Sandy. In the Caribbean, through our global church partnerships, we are providing basic needs such as food, water and shelter. Throughout the United States we are working hand-in-hand with synods and ministry organizations, who are experts at outreach in their communities.
We need your help. Your designated gift will be used entirely (100 percent) to help those whose lives and livelihoods have been impacted by this disaster.
Wondering what else you can do? Please share this bulletin insert with your congregation and inform others of the ELCA's response.
Please pray for all those affected by this terrible storm and for the relief workers who are at work on their behalf. Thank you for your generosity!
Sincerely,
The Rev. Daniel Rift Director, ELCA World Hunger and Disaster Appeal |

Mission Trips to Honduras, 2013
Registration for the 2013 mission trips to Honduras is now open. We have been sending teams since 2005 helping to build a church ediface in Yuscaran, helping with education of children, sharing sewing skills, and forming lasting relationships with the people of Honduras, both in San Pedro Sula in the north, and Yuscaran in the south. While the construction tasks for 2013 are still being planned, the joy of visiting old friends and meeting new friends is as special as ever. You do not need to speak any Spanish, but if you speak some, you will have ample opportunities to greet people in their language. We already share the language of Love in the Name of Jesus. Note: Due to flight availability the 2nd Trip dates have been changed to April 16 - 23 Click here for the flyer. Click here for the Honduras Mission Trip web page
