2017 AIACOC Design Award Winners Announced                   
The American Institute of Architects, Central Oklahoma Chapter honored eleven firms earlier this month during their 2016 AIA Central Oklahoma Design Excellence Awards Program. AIA Central Oklahoma received over 50 entries Design Award entries into this year's competition.  Entrants were architects from the AIA Central Oklahoma Chapter, which Central and Western Oklahoma.  The entered projects could be located anywhere in the world.  Entrants were able to submit in six categories: Commercial Architecture, Residential Architecture, Interiors, Master Planning, Historic Preservation / Adaptive Reuse and Sustainable Design.

The jury for the 2016 Design Awards met in Denver, Colorado to select this year's winners.  The jury was made up of three award winning, Denver architects: Cheri Gerou, FAIA of the Colorado State Architect's Office; Daniel Craig, AIA of Shears Adkins Rockmore; and Jenna Michieli, AIA of Anderson Mason Dale Architects.

The Awards Banquet was held on Friday, November 4th at the Skirvin Hotel and Cheri Gerou, FAIA, the jury chair, was on-hand to assist Lacey Lett, of NewsChannel 4 and the evening's emcee, in presenting the winners of the 2016 AIA Central Oklahoma Design Awards competition.  The following firms and projects were honored for their design.

The Value of Exterior Insulation, EIFS 101

Attendees will hear one hour of HSW credit.

Learning Objectives:
  • Outline and recognize positive attributes of EIFS such as enhanced R-Value, dew point management and improved energy efficiency.
  • Define and fully understand EIFS from substrate to finish coating.
  • Examine how EIFS fits into today's sustainable design practices and attaining LEED credits.
  • Distinguish how EIFS claddings through life cycle analysis can reduce the environmental impact / carbon footprint of a building envelope vs other cladding.

AIA Architecture Week will take place April 17-23, 2017, with the annual AIA Architecture Tour taking place on Saturday, April 22. 

The application to submit projects for the 2017 Tour can be found HERE.  The deadline to submit nominations is December 16, 2016.  All projects must be 100% complete or set to be complete by February 1, 2017 to be considered for the 2017 Tour.

Hosted by WoodWorks - Wood Products Council
With proper design, detailing and specification, wood structures can provide long and useful service lives while also offering a reduced environmental footprint. The key is careful planning and understanding of environmental loads and other external factors likely to impact a building over its lifetime. This presentation provides an overview of considerations related to durable wood design, including moisture management techniques, preservative treatment specification, and details for controlling termites. Attendees will qualify for 2 AIA/CES LUs (HSW) or PDH credits.
