Moisture & Concrete Floor Slabs               
Thursday, September 22, 2016

Join us for us for our September Cocktails and Credit program: Moisture and Concrete Floor Slabs: Health, Safety and Cost Effective Solutions.

Attendees will learn:

- In-depth  understanding of moisture issues in concrete slabs and the deleterious effect of a high moisture vapor emission rate on flooring finishes.

- The presentation will address "sick building syndrome."

- Various industry-approved methods of testing of MVER.

- Conditions that generate excessive moisture in slabs and how to resolve them.

AIA members will receive 1 hour of HSW credit.

AIACOC Members attend free.  Nonmembers $10.

Seating is limited.

Architecture after 5 is free to our AIA, Associate AIA and Allied members and their guests.

Architecture after 5 is meant to bring the local A/E/C community together throughout the year for some much needed social time.

2017 AIACOC Board of Directors

2017 AIA Central Oklahoma Board Positions Open for Election: (Candidates for these positions must be a licensed architect, AIA member).
 
President Elect:  In the absence of the President, the President Elect shall exercise general supervision of the Chapter's affairs and shall preside at meetings of this Chapter and the Board of Directors.  In the absence of the President, the President Elect shall act as spokesperson of this Chapter.  The President-Elect position is a one year term and this individual will move into the President's position the following year and then into the Past President position. 
 
Vice President:  In the absence of the President and the President Elect, the Vice President shall exercise general supervision of the Chapter's affairs and shall preside at meetings of this Chapter and the Board of Directors.  In the absence of the President and the President Elect, the Vice President shall act as spokesperson of this Chapter.  The Vice President will also volunteer and serve on at least one chapter committee.  The Vice President position is a one year term.
  
Secretary:  The Secretary shall act as the recording and corresponding secretary of the Chapter.  The Secretary shall safeguard all property of the Chapter and issue notices, with the assistance of the Executive Director, of the Chapter.  The Secretary will also volunteer and serve on at least one chapter committee.  The Secretary position is a one year term. 
 
Treasurer:  The Treasurer shall have charge and exercise general supervision of the Chapter's financial affairs.  The Treasurer will also volunteer and serve on at least one chapter committee.  The Treasurer position is a one year term. 
 
Director:  The Director's of the AIA Central Oklahoma Chapter will be responsible for serving one and overseeing at least one chapter committee.  The Director's position is a three year term. 
 
In addition to the duties listed above, every AIA Central Oklahoma Board member is asked to commit to:
 
  • Make personal fundraising calls to raise money for AIA Central Oklahoma and its yearly events.  And will continue to work until the chapter fundraising goals have been met.
  • Volunteer for the AIA Architecture Tour set to take place on Saturday, April 15, 2017.
  • Attend 8 of the 11 Board meetings throughout the year.
  • Attend 4 of the monthly luncheons and 4 Architecture after 5 events throughout the year.
  • Attend the AIA Central Oklahoma Golf Tournament either as a participant or as a volunteer and encourage architects to participate in the event.
  • Actively promote membership and recruit members into the AIA Central Oklahoma Chapter.
  • Serve on at least one ongoing chapter committee.
 
Each candidate will be asked to give a 2-3 minute candidate speech before the official election on Thursday, November 17 at the AIA Central Oklahoma November Luncheon.

AIA OKLAHOMA
Interested in Public Services?                    
AIA Oklahoma has an opportunity to recommend an architect to be appointed to the Construction Industries Board (CIB) Committee on Roofing Examiners.  The appointee will serve a two-year term or until his or her successor is appointed by the governor.  The committee meets in Oklahoma City at the CIB office located at 2401 N.W. 23rd Street.  Although the committee does not meet monthly, regular meetings are held at the call of the chair.

Oklahoma Uniform Building Code Commission Looking for Architects for Technical Committee                   
The OUBCC is creating a technical committee to take a more in-depth look at Storm Shelters and Safe Room Requirements for both residential and commercial construction. The OUBCC is requesting volunteers from persons interested in serving on this committee. Applications will be taken through the end of the day on Monday, September 12, 2016.  If you are interested in serving on the committee and feel you fit one of the positions listed below, please fill out the application below and submit to the OUBCC. 
 
Code Official, Architect, Structural Engineer, General Contractor or Commercial Storm Shelter Builder, Residential Storm Shelter Builder, Mechanical Representative, Electrical Representative, Plumbing Representative, Storm Shelter Door Supplier or Manufacturer, or Local Jurisdiction Representative.

IES September Luncheon: Lighting for Life Safety

We are pleased to announce our September section meeting.  David Rodgers of Triple C Companies will be with us to provide an overview of Life Safey Codes and how to meet them with various lighting solutions.  This couse is registered with AIA CES for continuing professional education.   
  • OBJECTIVES
    • Participants will develop an appreciation for the need for Life Safety products.
    • Participants will obtain a review of common life safety code requirements from various agencies.
    • Participants will review a comparison of several different solutions for meeting code requirements for both indoor and outdoor emergency lighting.
    • Participates will gain an understanding of how to properly layout emergency lighting equipment.
The cost is $20 per person.
  
AIA members will receive continuing education credit for this program.
