The Case for CLT: Opportunities and Challenges hosted by WoodWorks

Cross laminated timber (CLT) is an engineered wood building system designed to complement light- and heavy-timber framing options. Now available to North American building designers, it offers the structural simplicity needed for cost-effective projects, as well as benefits such as fast installation, reduced waste, improved thermal performance and design versatility. This presentation will introduce CLT through a series of project examples while considering some of the more challenging aspects of CLT building design-such as fire and life safety, lateral and seismic design, acoustic performance and building envelope. Topics will also include the manufacturing and specification of CLT, building code considerations and available resources such as the US CLT Handbook.  Attendees will qualify for 2 AIA/CES LUs (HSW) or PDH credits.

THURSDAY, MAY 26

$20 cost - Lunch is included

Location:

What's Happening at Hopewell Baptist Church

Thanks to the hard work of The Hopewell Heritage Foundation, Inc., Bruce Goff's mid-century,12-sided "tepee" once known as Hopewell Baptist Church will soon realize full rehabilitation. After years of challenges to repair at 178th Street and MacArthur in Edmond, it has proudly gained the advocacy of the National Trust for Historic Places and Oklahoma's own Kirkpatrick Foundation.

From Goff's historic structure will emerge an exciting event center readapted for creative arts programming, educational seminars, business meetings, local celebrations and other uses. Award-winning Oklahoma City architect Hans E. Butzer, founder of Butzer Architects and Urbanism, will lead the redesign.

Join The Foundation and others in this groundbreaking work by contributing today through its web site at www.goff-hopewell.com or crowd funding campaign, "Year of the TP," at https://igg.me/at/yearofthetp/x/10383523.
