Greetings!

Employee wellness programs have become a widespread trend in corporate America. This year we joined this trend and have started the journey of building a culture of health from the top down. We developed a health awareness campaign titled "Be in Shape for 2015." One way we got our employees on board with the campaign was by giving each of them a Fitbit to use as a tool to generate awareness of their physical activity. Some friendly competition and shared workout time keeps the team involved and continues to strengthen the bonds within our team. Having shared experiences, such as working toward a common goal of living healthy, builds camaraderie, generates productivity, and results in less absenteeism. We appreciate the energy and creativity our employee's bring to the team each day and genuinely care for their well-being in all aspects of their life and that is why we invest in their physical and emotional health.

Sincerely,
Tim Keating

Bidding To Win

In Ted Garrison and Neil Southwell's article "How to Sell Value to Increase Profitability," are ten tips for bidding to win.

  1. Answer the bid questions clearly and say what you will do and how you will do it.
  2. Provide all relevant information you are asked for.
  3. Manage your bid as you would a project.
  4. Appoint a single Bid Manager to work with the Bid Team.
  5. Really understand how you are going to be assessed before you start work on the bid so you can score high.
  6. Make sure your answers are relevant to the problems, issues and objectives of the customer.
  7. Check the work limits on each of the responses and stick to them.
  8. Include your best examples of previous, relevant work.
  9. Provide references if asked.
  10. Use plain English and avoid jargon or overly technical explanations.

Central Florida Growth
Lean Principals in Healthcare Design Panel Discussion

The Society of Marketing Professional Services of Central Florida (SMPS) and the American Institute of Architects Orlando (AIA) hosted their annual Healthcare Design panel discussion in Orlando on January 27, 2015.

The panelists were Gregory S. Pace, Director of Design & Construction at Universal Health Services, Inc.; Rob Deininger, VP of Operations at Florida Hospital Orlando; and Doug Armstrong, System Director of Design & Construction at BayCare Health System. The moderator was Roger B. Call, Director, Healthcare Kaizen Architecture + Design, for Herman Miller Healthcare; and the keynote speaker was Richard Rasmussen, VP for Membership Relations at Florida Hospital Association.

This year's discussion centered on Lean Principles in design and construction of healthcare facilities. Lean Principles embrace the philosophy of eliminating waste in the design and construction process. This includes designing work spaces that reduce workflow waste. Consideration of where nurse's stations and patient beds are located in relation to medical supplies and equipment are all part of Lean Principals in the design phase. On the construction side, Lean Principals focus on controlling material and manpower waste, and providing a value project to the client.
