Spotlight: 2011 Ehler's Estate Sauvignon Blanc (Napa, CA)
We love what Ehlers has to say about this week's Spotlight wine - European style meets California sunshine! Today's spotlight is a full-bodied and rich, yet still bone dry Sauvignon Blanc. The zestiness of the palate is able to shine through given that the wine sees no malolactic fermentation or new oak aging. This wine is all about lemon zest, orange blossoms, white peaches, apricot and grapefruit. And did we mention it is organically grown as well? What's not to love.
But the fabulousness doesn't end there. In 2002, soon after French entrepreneur and philanthropist Jean Leducq finished joining parcels of land together to produce a contiguous vineyard, he passed away. Ehlers Estate was left in trust to the Leducq Foundation, which supports international cardiovascular research. Since that time, the Foundation, funded in large part by sales from of the Ehlers Estate wines, has donated $30M annually to cardiovascular research. Simply amazing!
This is a wine that will tickle the palate while supporting the earth and your heart. We can definitely raise a glass to that! Enjoy this wine with all the new spring vegetables that will soon be coming our way!

2010 Coleman Vineyards "Cherry Cove" Pinot Noir (Willamette Valley, OR) A really exciting wine that pairs aromas of blueberries and dried Bing cherries with fennel.
