Time to Talk Turkey!

wine

Thanksgiving is The Urban Grape's favorite holiday of the year. It seems to be the occasion for which people put the most thought into what they are serving - both on their plates and in their glasses. We love working with our clients all month to help them choose the perfect bottles of wine for their dinner.

This year, our staff is excited to help you find at least one unexpected treasure to serve. Maybe we can help you pick out a great beer to pour instead of wine, or maybe this is the year we convince you to offer a more full-bodied ros alongside of the beaujolais. We also have thought long and hard about what to serve after the meal to help settle your stomach and get you ready for the dessert course, so ask us about a digestif to suit your palate.

Whatever you choose, please consider shopping early to have the best selection and to avoid long lines. And don't forget that with our new full-time special-orders coordinator, Keith, and our full-time delivery driver, Juan, we can fulfill phone orders and drop them at your house every Tuesday through Saturday! You can reach Keith Monday through Friday from 9-5 PM by calling 617.232.4831.

Cheers to UG's favorite month of the year!

Be sure to join us on Thursday and Friday nights from 5-8 and Saturdays from 3-6 for our regular tastings. Below is a sample of tastings at both of our stores this month. "UGCH" indicates the tasting will take place at Chestnut Hill, while "UGSE" indicates our South End store.

Thursday, November 15, 5-8 PM at UGCH: Brugal Rum is the official rum of the Dominican Republic and an incredibly popular rum here in Boston. Join Catherine for a tasting of the Brugal portfolio. (Catherine will also sample Brugal at UGSE on 11/28)

Friday, November 16, 5-8 PM at UGSE: We can't get enough of the Fabrizia Limoncello, and neither can our customers. Come taste with Phil and see if you want to serve this tasty digestif at your Thanksgiving!

Saturday November 17, 8-11 PM at UGSE: The boys from Night Shift brew their amazing beer at night, so it seemed appropriate to bring them in to UGSE for an after-hours tasting. Stop by before or after your dinner plans to taste these fabulous beers!

Sunday, November 18, 7-9 PM at UGSE: We couldn't be more excited for our "Beer for Wine Lovers" Pop-Up event with Mei Mei Street Kitchen. Five courses of their award-winning food, all paired with Beer Guy Ben's beer choices that even wine lovers will adore. All for $20! Limited tickets left, so buy yours today!

The week of Thanksgiving at UGSE and UGCH: Every evening in the week leading up to Thanksgiving, we will have special wine tastings at both stores from 5-8 PM. Stop by to taste fantastic wine for your holiday table!

Friday, November 23, 3-6 PM at UGSE: We're going gaga over sake and think you will be too after tasting through Joto Sake's line-up with Adrienne! It's the perfect antidote to your holiday hangover.

As always, check the events page on our website for our full event listing and newly added tastings!

Spotlight Wine: 2009 Pauillac de Lynch-Bages (Pauillac, FR)

pauillac

Each week this month, we'll be spotlighting a great Thanksgiving wine at an amazing price. This week's 25% discount is on six bottles, making it a good deal for those of you serving a crowd!

This Cabernet blend (75% Cab, 19% Merlot and 6% Cab Franc), heralds from Chateau Lynch Bages, one of the premiere houses of the Pauillac region with a winemaking history that dates back to the 16th century. Their current vintages are characterized by deep color and tannic structure, not to mention an enduring softness and elegance.

The Pauillac is a newer label for Chateau Lynch Bages, and is characterized by a lighter structure than some of the more established wines from this producer. It has the same deep color, but shows more red fruit and spice. It has a freshness to it that makes it an excellent wine to pair with all sorts of food and flavors. This is a wine that will add to your Thanksgiving meal, as opposed to overwhelm it, while still having all the necessary elegance for a special dinner.

A truly spectacular wine that will have you and your guests giving abundant thanks!

Regular Price: $50

15% Bottle Discount: $42.50

25% 6-Bottle Discount: $225 (a savings of $75, at $37.50 a bottle)
