The Pacifica Quartet launches the new season with the exciting release of its first recording on the Hyperion label featuring the music of composer Leo Ornstein. Additional highlights of 2015-16 include a debut performance at New York's 92nd Street Y, the beginning of a two-season residency at the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum in Boston, a ten-day residency for the Arizona Friends of Chamber Music in Tucson, and return visits to major chamber music series in New Orleans, San Francisco, and Portland. To round out the end of its 20th anniversary season, the Quartet will return to Europe and Japan.
 
The ensemble will perform with a remarkable line of artists throughout 2015/16 including Marc-Andr Hamelin, Lynn HarrellAnthony McGill, Menahem Pressler, and Orion Weiss.
 
Pacifica & Hamelin in Chicago
The brilliant and intrepid Canadian pianist Marc-Andr� Hamelin joins the Pacifica Quartet to open the
University of Chicago Presents chamber music series on Sunday, October 18 at 3:00 pm. The program includes Ligeti: String Quartet No. 1, Metamorphoses nocturnes, Debussy: Images I and Pr�ludes, Book II (selections), and the Dvoř�k: Piano Quintet. Mr. Hamelin replaces the previously scheduled British pianist Paul Lewis.
New Ornstein CD with Marc-Andr� Hamelin
Following a highly successful and critically acclaimed international tour, the Pacifica Quartet and pianist Marc-Andr� Hamelin, were invited by the Hyperion label to record the works of Leo Ornstein. The album, which was released earlier this month, features the composer's rarely performed Piano Quintet from 1927 as well as his Second String Quartet. This recording marks the ensemble's first appearance on the Hyperion label.

Shulamit Ran: New Work for Pacifica

This past season, the Pacifica Quartet celebrated its 20th anniversary with a tour to Canada, Europe and Japan.The center piece of the tour was the debut performances of longtime Chicago University colleague and friend Shulamit Ran's  Glitter, Doom, Shards, Memory. Commissioned by Music Accord - a consortium of presenters from the US, as well as Suntory Hall and Wigmore Hall - they will perform the evocative piece on tour this season with stops in Tulsa, Denver, Raleigh, New Orleans, Las Vegas, Baton Rouge, Portland, and San Francisco.
Next New York Appearance

This December the Pacifica Quartet makes its long awaited debut at the 92nd St. Y in New York City. The unique program, entitled "Last Words," showcases the artistic versatility of the ensemble and features the final quartets by three composers spanning 200 years. Works include Carter's Fragments for String Quartet and his String Quartet No. 5, Jan�ček's Intimate Letters and Beethoven's String Quartet No. 16 in F Major, Op.135.
