OUR DISTRICT PASTOR | "If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be given you." John 15:7 This verse is part of the teaching that Jesus gives us when He talks about the vine and the branches. Jesus is the vine. We are the branches. We understand that all the life, all the power, all the....everything comes from the vine! It doesn't flow from the branches to the vine...it is vine to the branches.
We have several large trees in our backyard and I've been watching the leaves bud on the limbs. The limbs get the joy of seeing the leaves come to life, but it's only possible because the trunk brings the life.
Going back to the verse where it says "ask whatever you wish and it will be given you," let me ask you...do you really believe this? Do I? Jesus said "whatever you wish." He didn't say "the easy stuff" or "small things of life." He said WHATEVER!
Last Sunday I was at the Toronto Church with Pastor Eric Frey. He asked people to share what God has done in their lives. A person spoke about a family member who had been on dialysis for several years. God has healed this person and dialysis is no longer necessary. Later that day I was in Powhatan Point with Pastor Bill Coker. This church has rejoiced as people from the church have seen divine healings by our Lord.
God is doing amazing things as I have heard from other churches that the Lord has done "Whatever" when people pray and miraculous healings have taken place. Pastor Dan Skinner at Canal Fulton has testimonies of healings. Pastor Lee Randolph shares more testimonies! These are just the ones I can think of as I type this. I'm sure there are more in the churches around our district.
I need to confess to you that lately I haven't done as good as I should about taking my "whatevers" to God. I've worried. I've fretted. I've talked about them but I haven't taken them to God as He would want me to do. I know God can answer my prayers and bring miracles into these situations. Worry and fretting has never produced a miracle...Ever!
Jesus tells us in 15:5, "apart from me you can do nothing." So, we all need to be reminded that connected with God, our "whatever" can miraculously be accomplished. Apart from God, nothing is accomplished. I am so thankful for the healing touches of our Lord on people's lives. I am thankful they give the glory and honor to the Lord who has done the miraculous. I also pray that all of us would bring our "whatevers" to God and allow Him to accomplish what we are powerless to do.
"Lord, we come to you and confess that apart from you we can do nothing. You are the power, you are life, and you are the giver of miracles. We bring to you the things in our life we have no answer for. Please, answer our prayers and bring the solutions only you can grant. We remain in you, trust in you, and submit to you as our Lord and God. Amen."
Believing in Miracles, Dave Lutz
